Beautiful dogs! All of them. We deliberate getting a second dog, but it seems we do more things with one than if we have two. It's a tough decision.

More of Quincy the fox terrier with Sierra the girl (brittany) next door.

Sadly, Hank (now 18 mos) had his right rear leg amputated today. Bone cancer. Anyone have a 3 legged dog and can pass along any advice? Doc says he'll be like normal after 2 weeks.

from what i have seen, anecdotally, three legged dogs are happy. i've never seen one that looked sad, unhappy, or less than satisfied with their lot in life.

i am sorry to hear that this was necessary. i hope that all is well with your dog from here on out.

nynor,

just back from the park walking our boxer - who at 10 is really slowing down.

anyway, a 3 legged dog (missing one hind leg) went past on his morning walk also. he seemed happy as larry.

Well, got Hank this a.m.

He's amazing. He's pooping, tinkling, eating, drinking, and even ran-trotted up to the door. All this less than 18 hours after the surgery. I'd send a pic but it's pretty gruesome.

Biopsy results in a few days. Hoping for 'good' cancer. I'll be happy as Larry.

Thanks,

Jack

You asked for it. He's eating, again. Seems almost perfectly normal. Amazing.

Jack - sorry to hear about Hank, he's a beautiful boy. Will keep my fingers crossed that the bone cancer was caught in time and hasn't metastasized further into the body yet. Give him a great big hug and scratch his head for me.

There was a black lab in my neighborhood growing up that had a rear leg amputated and he did fantastic! Don't think he ever knew he was different. Hadn't thought about him in 20 years - his name was Clancy. He was young and was hit by a car, went on to live a long happy life.

We lost our 8yr old Saint Bernard to bone cancer last Sept. If the cancer had been in a hind leg, we would have considered amputation. It was a front leg, Saints carry most of their weight up front, and she was 152lbs. We were only able to keep her comfortable for three weeks after diagnosis.

Will hope for good news, please post back when you hear more. Also, please contact the breeder, I hope they would appreciate the heads up that one of their pups developed bone cancer at such a young age.

This is Abby, she was, coincidentally, born on the exact day we rec'd the diagnosis for Chloe. She helped us with the healing process and has become a great friend.

Thanks Dean. If it's a osteosarcoma, chances are pretty good that it's spread. If it's chondrosarcoma, great chance he'll live a normal life. He's a good pup.

Just seeing you're in SLC. I might travel to Miller to take the yamaha champions school--know anyone who's gone through it? Very new--friend of mine knows Nick and Ken and he speaks very highly of them (and he's very fast).
