Favorite Horror/SciFi Movies

I was curious as to what movies have warped us all as children growing up. Whatever happened to Elvira showing all the B movies on Saturday morning? I miss watching zombies and creatures and whatnot.

1. The Omega Man
2. Evil Dead 2
3. Re-Animator
4. Dawn Of The Dead
5. The Andromeda Strain
6. Toxic Avenger
7. The Blob... it's Steve McQueen, show respect fools.
8. The Abominable Dr. Phibes
9. House of Wax
10. The Hunger

I don't know that I have ten but, in no particular order:

1. The Exorcist
2. The Omen
3. Psycho
4. Alien
5. Terminator
6. Rosemary's Baby
7. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
8. Jaws
9. Friday the 13th
10. Anything with Barbra Streisand...................very frightening stuff

Note: I didn't list any re-makes or sequels for a reason.......

BTW, did anyone see Rob Zombie's "house of a thousand corpses"?
I wish I didn't, it was awful. Oh, well.

Pete

Great question, Jared!
From my personal collection of B-flicks:
1. Brazil (yeah Nostatic!)
2. Plan 9 from Outer Space (yep: I've got it on DVD! The mother of all B-movies!)
3. Swamp Thing
4-6. Army of Darkness / Evil Dead / Evil Dead 2
7. The Car
8. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (BBS Series on video)
9. Until the End of the World

Other movies I don't have in my collection but are worth of note here:
- The Naked Lunch
- Clockwork Orange
- The Birds (Can't go wrong with Hitchcock!)

-Z-man.

"9. Friday the 13th "

This movie is terrible... I think you might be confusing it with one of its much-more-fun sequels. The movie was made for one reason: to cash in on the success of Halloween... even the title is a Halloween rip-off!

My top ten Horror:

1) JAWS
2) EVIL DEAD 2
3) HALLOWEEN
4) THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS
5) DAWN OF THE DEAD
6) PSYCHO
7) THE EXORCIST
8) SCREAM (ONLY the first one)
9) A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET
10) TREMORS, or maybe 28 DAYS LATER

my top ten favorite Sci-Fi

1) THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
2) STAR WARS
3) LOTR: THE TWO TOWERS
4) MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 THE MOVIE (or any episode )
5) ALIENS
6) THE ROAD WARRIOR
7) 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY
8) LOTR: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING
9) THE INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS
10) THE QUIET EARTH
runner up: X-MEN 2 (it was a lot better than i expected!)

If you want to know what I really think about some of these movies, I used to be a staff writer and reviewer for the HUGE horror movie database/internet magazine DIABOLICAL DOMINION (www.diabolical-dominion.com). My movie reviews are still up.

I've never been the same after watching the Exorcist and I've never got the scene that goes along with the song "Singing in the Rain", from Clockwork Orange, out of my head.

The Shining.
The 6th Sense

As a Tolkein fan, I was pretty impressed with the Lord of the Rings movies. I was sad to hear they cut the last half of the third book though. No "scouring of the shire".

I love scary/thriller movies...but anything with too much operatic church music creeps me out.

Favorites:

Silence of the Lambs
Dead Again
Nightmare on Elm Street (1st one)
Exorcist
Shining

There were also the ones that were just funny to see at the drive-in with a bunch of high school friends & tally the body count:

Halloweens
Friday the 13ths
Nightmare on Elm Streets

I know there are more but these are the ones that come to mind the quickest.

Am I the only one who liked 12 Monkeys? I never thought I'd say Brad Pitt was a good actor until I saw that movie.

Brazil
Heck, Baron Munchausen was fun too. I'm just a Gilliam fan, I guess.
2001
Almost any Raimi/Campbell movie
The Matrix
Equilibrium--interesting concept
Dark City
The Abyss
Blade Runner
The Fifth Element (perfect for those don't-take-yourself-seriously evenings)
TRON
The Rocketeer (highly under-rated, and Jennifer Connelly is a HOTTIE)

More as I think of 'em...

Creature from the black lagoon...a tip of the hat to anyone who can name the actor in the "creature" garb...
