Found this in a closet I was painting; I'm guessing GI3-0329 was the original phone number for this house.

443-0329 Anyone know what the GI was an abbreviation for?
Back then, they used a name to help people to remember numbers. My phone on LI started with "Pershing 5..." for phone number 735. We all freaked out when they decided to ask people to use "optional" zip codes since it was yet more numbers to remember. As you may know, we were told that the "optional" zip was mostly of businesses but if we used them the mail would arrive faster. Sounds exactly like the scam they are pulling now with the "optional" zip +4 system. It is just a matter of time before the +4 will be mandatory.

The first 2 letters from what I remember use to be the county the number was located in....atleast where I was at, that is what it meant.
