The guy's name is Nick Park (not the guy pictured above, the guy you reference). No, he's not involved. It's a Disney/Pixar flick, directed by John Lasseter (of Toy Story fame).

The clip is a little short to really tell the reason, but his sink rate looked fast throughout the whole 9 seconds.
