My Dad flew Corsairs (ground based) in the Caroline Islands and Wildcats (carrier based) from the USS Savo Island, CVE 78, during WWII. His carrier squadron VC-27, was the highest scoring squadron for all escort carriers during the war claiming 62 Japanese planes shot down in 1944-45. I know how proud you and your family must be of your father. Those Corsairs were something else...one of my favourite warbirds.

I'm so glad he was able to participate in the Honor Air flight before his passing.

Please know how grateful we are for his service.

Both my parents and step-father served in WWII and Korea....my mother is still with us at 92. I visited her tonight and we hugged each other as always - I always need one more (just in case).
