David,

Not that one, but I do know that it was remodeled in recent years. This was in Altadena boarding Pasadena.

That was Altadena in 1908. We found some photos that had a horse drawn wagon sitting outside the house on the street facing south toward Pasadena.

I still have a piece of old growth Pine about 24" x 70" (not a glued up piece) sitting in my shop from that place thinking it will be worth something one day. It is still straight as an arrow.

That weekend our local Aircooled club was invited to be in the International Auto show. But we were placed on the upper level of the Civic Center. They hoisted all of our cars this way both in, and out.

Here is my original paint '73 Thing.

Wasn't it craned up there as part of an art exhibit?

Correct.

Craned onto 2nd story as an exhibit during the international car show. Then crane lifted back out after the show.

The '69 to '73 Things had gas heaters and no side raised air intakes. '74 to '78 switched to heat exchangers and needed the "dust free" air to blow the heated air into the cabin. Thus, VW installed the "ear muffs" or "Hamster Cheeks" to get the air intake up out of the dust created by the rear wheels. Only '73 and '74 models were imported to the US.

Does the Altadena G&G home have a name?

This is the Darling House in Claremont - it's nothing like the Gamble House, and I've not been inside this one, but the exterior today (after the remodel) is stunning:

Just prior to renovation:

I never really liked the roofline on it.

Here are some (mediocre) recent shots of a phenomenal renovation:

Some stock shots:

There was a huge article in one of our trade magazine on that home around the same time we were doing ours. The interior was left painted (new paint, or course) because the owner decided to not strip off the painted board and batten walls. Too much money. A project like that can suck the deepest bank accounts dry real quick.

I never really liked the roofline on it.

btw, nothing is like the Gamble House but I think the Blacker House is the prettiest of them all.
