Location: Placerville, CA.... You know, the only place on Highway 50 between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe the you find signal lights. Above the fog most of the time and I can see the stars of the Milky Way 8 out of 10 nights. Kinda cool.....

Looking through my Normandy photos, I found these which seem appropriate for today -
The town of Sainte Marie Du Mont was one of the first (the first?) towns liberated in the D-Day invasion. The main feature of the small town is the church. Remnants of some gunfire in the church is still visible. Photos below of the church exterior and interior and a photo of the first mass held after the invasion. I can only imagine - thankful to have survived and uncertain about what lay ahead.     For any that haven't done a Normandy tour, I highly recommend it. It is incredibly moving, humbling and being on the ground gives a much better sense of what was involved than books or movies can do.
