It looks like it's lodged in his deltoid. You can see the back end sticking out of the front of his upper arm, and the front end is sticking out the back.

Roughly, the detonator requires a certain amount of airflow before it will charge. It's a safety feature put in place because of guys like the one pictured. If it weren't for that safety, he'd have killed/maimed his entire squad.

So what you're saying is that this was done at launch rather than landing? I enjoy things that go bang, but I get nervous when I'm on the wrong end of anything that is designed to propel metal very fast... I don't know what kind of cajones are needed to put my body in line with the working end of a mortar.

Location: Placerville, CA.... You know, the only place on Highway 50 between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe the you find signal lights. Above the fog most of the time and I can see the stars of the Milky Way 8 out of 10 nights. Kinda cool.....
