Daltry followed the band. Not the other way around.
I think it bears note that Mr Townshend wrote all the songs.
No argument that Ox and Moon were possibly the best bass and drummer on the planet.
Daltry had a particular sound that added something to the music... much like Robert Plant or Mick Jagger.
None of those bands would have been the same without their lead singers.

Guitarists mix about and several are on the same stage as many other greats and it is hard to pick only one as the greatest.

I can name 10 superb bass players, and that slights many who stand shoulder to shoulder with them.

Same with keyboardist. So many highly talented that one does not rise above the rest.

Even though I grew up on The Who, Led Zep, lynyrd skynyrd, Van Halen, Fleetwood Mac, Stones, Pink Floyd, Faces, I respectfully disagree about drummers. Those drummers are super and are at the top of the best drummers class with none really edging out the others.

But this man has established a class all by himself taking the complete art of percussion to a few levels above the rest. Of all the 8 tracks, cassettes, albums, CD's and listening to music for coming on a half century, I have not observed/heard anyone that compares.

The Professor.

Peart credits Keith Moon as one of his earliest influences.

Who had a kit like this back then? The only one coming close was Carl Palmer.
Who played double bass and would switch which foot he used to keep time?
Who didn't use high hats (except for studio work) and used crash cymbals in the middle of a roll?
Moon opened up a whole new attitude in rock of the drums being a lead instrument instead of just a background fill to keep time (with an occasional drum solo).

Daltry? Here's what Pete said:

This afternoon, I planted a Bamboo variety I had never heard of....."Angel Mist".

How cool is that variety name?

I only planted 3 (7 gal.) on my particular job, but here's a photo from the Internet showing it's mature growth habit....wow.....talk about gorgeous!

Did Keith write the Lyrics for complete Albums? And a majority of the music?
