Two more air cooled toys joined our family yesterday!!

Pictured in front (blue) is a 1965 Beach Mk5 Formula Vee chassis, currently used as a solo vee racer.

Pictured in rear (green) is a 1967 Zink C4 formula vee that has been modified and currently only 'legal' for solo vee. PO was 2002 & 2006 North Carolina Autocross Champion in this vehicle.

I didn't really have this purchase budgeted, but the price was such that I just couldn't pass it up. I could sell off the Beach chassis alone and make as much off the sale as I gave for both cars.

I drove the green one around a bit yesterday. Sure... 1600cc doesn't produce a ton of hp, but that close to the ground it sure seems scary-fast!!

Those look like a gas! I'll bet the power to weight ratio is better than my 964 even though it's only 1600 cc. Must fly! What kind of engines-VW?

Btw-Hope that battery/bumper is a SLA battery.

I remember that green car from the NCAC. It at least took FTD on day 1.

My new project

1952 bug. The pictures are deceiving - it has a lot more rust than it initially appears, and the rust is in weird places. The pans are nice, but the heater channels are gone. The edges of the fenders are gone. The amazing bit is the car has not been messed with that much, and is 99.99% complete. The only hacks I've found so far are an add-on radio speaker, some wiring hacks (looks like they tried to rig blinkers at one time) and the funky vent under the rear window.

Caught this flying over my house on Saturday - it probably has some of the parts Leland is looking for.

It's almost too nice to restore. I'm going to get it running and roll it as-is for now.

Green has a VW 1600cc dual port with dellorto carb. Blue has a VW 1300cc single port with solex carb.

The battery is an Odyssey dry cell. The autox cones pose no real danger to the battery, and for open track there is an add on hoop that protects the nose.

The started was toast, and I suspected the bushing was bad, so I pulled the motor. Yep. ///Mink got the engine running after just a few tweaks (spark plugs were mis-wired). It's the original engine, according to the VW birth certificate.
