why didnt they attach some floatation to that boat before they pullled it off the brakewater? or did they forget that the tide was coing in?

Absolutely correct...as lift is transfered from the main rotor to the wings, power is transfered away from the main rotor transmission, in effect keeping the rotor tip speed (where they stall) below RBS. Like all hybrid systems (tilt rotor for example) the transition period is most critical. Maneuvering speed is everything.

I don't know where they are in the test profile, but VTDP seems promising

Apparently the autopilot put em on the rocks - and I imagine the salvage company got sued too - fools - it sure didn;t look like the boat was banged up that bad to where they couldn't have kept it afloat when they got it off the rocks. pretty stupid if you ask me...
