Poor bugger for losing his boat like that;
have to feel for the crane operator too.

Looks like the op ran the cable into the Shiv and snaped the cable letting the front drop in.

Nice detective work. Also note that the boat cover is off when the boat is in the air and on in the water.

Damn Byron! You had the corner on Kavorka even back in the day

No, I'd say he was boomed out too far and too low with a heavy load, when "flip", up she went? Ramming the block into the shiv wouldn't have this effect, and breaking the cable would have an opposite effect.

Looks like they were picking something from the backyard, not sure why he didn't get closer; maybe because of the landscaping.... $1000 worth of sod, oops.

My first career in construction was crane operating. I ran a crane part-time for Ellis-Don Construction in the early 80's very similar to this one. A R/T Grove, totally hydraulic. Amazing control, but very tippy. I had the rear pads off the ground a few times trying to pick up stuff boomed out and low. This operator must've been a little rammy though, cause you can 'feel' very well with these rigs. (most stressful job I ever had)
