Question OT Posts?

what are the rules like on the section?

the reason i ask is there seem to be a ton of these non-techincal topics (like this one) popping up...

i'm usually not concerned with things like this, however, when i do a search and want to eliminate the bs posts and search under 911 tech forum, all the bs posts keep popping up (b/c they are posted in the tech forum and not 911 dicussion/etc.)

there lies the problem...

what are most of your feelings on this?

Kevin

do a search. What you seek shall be found.

Actually, this has been discussed from time to time, and the general consensus is that the moderators do a pretty good job of keeping moving most of the totally OT stuff, and the community itself does a decent job of policing them selves (with the occasional slip up).

We're too much of a community to keep it strictly technical. Sometimes thing stray more than I prefer, but everyone has different preferences.

old skul...how can this be moved and posts like this are not (he has $25 to spend on a car for his wife, not a PCAR)...

$25K to spend???

I was mearly trying to make a point of the inconsistancy of moved posts...I agree with moving them if they are all moved...when searching for technical help later on his post, etc. will show up...

understand what I'm getting at?

A lot of it just has to do with the interest generated by the members. I'm not sure why you have so many problems with searches. Using the correct terms should net you very few OT posts.

The OT Forums guidelines are here.

Or, if you don't want to click on the "here," HERE they are:
1. No flaming: debates are ok, but responding to threads just to incite or start an argument or conflict is not permitted. Personal attacks, if hostile in nature, are not allowed.

2. No pointless threads or excessive posting allowed: Yes, this is an off topic forum, but let's keep the subject matter of an intelligent nature. If you're bored, play a game on your playstation or better yet, wash your car! Posting responses to increase your 'number of posts' is also not allowed.

3. Absolutely no pornographic, objectionable, or illegal material allowed. No pictures, links to pictures, discussion of porn...etc. is allowed. Objectionable material includes graphic gore, tasteless jokes, and any off-color subject matter. Such posts will be deleted, and such posts are grounds for banning.

4. No discussion of any illegal activity permitted. This not only jeoparizes Pelican Parts and Wayne, it will ultimately jeopardize you! Linking to any site that deals with illegal activity is not allowed. Posting information on how to defraud a company or misuse a product or any promotion of any illegal activity will not be tolerated. Again, such posts are grounds for banning. Observe all copyright laws when posting copyrighted material.

5. Do not impersonate other people or use fake aliases. Only one userid per person allowed.

6. No profanity allowed. Make every effort to express your views without resorting to trash talk.

7. Respect other's privacy: no posting of pictures, phone numbers, email addresses...etc. of another individual without their permission.

There will be posts in the off topic area that will have heated debates. Please approach such threads with caution: be as clear as possible in posting your views, so you won't be mis-interpretted. Heated debates are good, as long as people enter them with a mature attitude and are willing to "agree to disagree." Mutual respect goes a long way.

Note these guidelines are specifically for the OT Forums, and any thread bounced over here from the other forums.

Bottom line: have fun, keep it under PG-13, and don't bash anyone, and you'll have a fun time!!!

Regards,
-Z-man, OT Dungeon moderator!

I posted this under the technical section, not here originally and Old Skull moved it...

I love this site, but what sometimes bothers me is I come to the 911 technical area to learn technical items or help out, or get new ideas on what I can do for my 911...

not to read about how someone wants to buy a non-porsche for their wife and has $25k to spend (just an example)

yes I don't have to read it, but what is the point of have a techincal section when SO MUCH of it now is non-technical...

just venting...
