Stupid tattoos
In the light of my daughter's permanent art gallery I have an occasional bias against tattoos. This weekend I had a barbeque and one of my guests had a fresh tattoo on her wrist where her watchstrap should go - her boyfriend's mobile phone number! Having talked to her she didn't seem so dumb that she couldn't use the memory function on her mobile, so why?. What does she do with it when he changes number or she changes boyfriend? Whats the stupidest one you've seen?

"Stupid Tattoo" is redundant.
I saw a 15 year-old girl a couple years ago - she was a relative of a girl I was dating - who had a tattoo, across her lower back, which was her own name in those funky Gothic letters that are popular with certain groups. Her own name - what hell is that about - a cue card? "Ooooh ooooh uh,.... Cindy!" Even dumber are when kids have pop culture references tattoo'd on themselves, like band names. I can just imagine if I'd done that when I was that age, and someone asking me today "Who in the hell is 'Vanilla Ice'?"

A freind of mine has a underwater scene across his back. Complete reef, mermaid, fish, and shark. Took about a year of going in ever so often because of some details and color. Stupid, well not really except for the fact that he hates the beach and doesnt like the ocean all that much. He said, "It just looks cool".

I like tatoos, especially the ones not covered by clothes. Tells me the wearer quite possibly has self esteem problems and other issues...so I get warning ahead of time to steer clear.

I knew a long legged girl once who had a very small tattoo on the inside of her left ankle. It was Winnie the Pooh. He was holding a bunch of balloons. All different colors. One little balloon was slipping away and was drifting upward, away from the bunch as Pooh looked up.
When I got to know her better I saw the rest of her tattoo. Very, very high on the inside of her left thigh was a tiny little yellow balloon. Cute girl.

One day I'd really like to go to Japan and have some irizumi (sp?) done. That's where you sit for weeks at a time and have the full suit done traditionally with bamboo.

Hmm...you probably need connections with the local yakuza to get some of their chair time.

Great idea Jared. Makes the cell number on the wrist seem like a good choice.

ROFLMAO what a great OT thread.
Though I'm afraid the 'tooed defensive' are going to start coming out of the wood work ('art'work. . .whatever). . .. even inspite of BG's hilarious pre-emptive slam. Quote:

It's a shame to see some really attractive girls get those stupid tatoos across their tailbone/lower back. The female body is so darn attractive already - don't go messing it up with ink. The arm band thing just cracks me up - I thought tattoos were supposed to be individual and unique? So many people out there with no imagination. What's wrong with just a wild hair style, clothes, hell even a piercing? At least when you "transition" into your next phase of life you won't be dragging along a probable bad decision from your past. Sure its a personal thing but tattoos only look good on young skin. Don't want to see grandma with the thorn arm band.

When I was a young lad, "wanted" posters were hung in post offices. I noted that the description always included tattoos. Wanting to keep my career options open, crime included, I decided I didn't want to help the cops find me. Never really wanted a tattoo.

Don't get me wrong - I've seen some good tattoos - but they were on folks who could pull them off. Tattoos are so over used these days that they've lost their impact - unless you do something really extreme. Hope this fad wears off before my kids are old enough to partake.
I remember tattoos really took off about the time Janet Jackson admitted to Barbara Walters that she had a tattoo of Minny Mouse giving ole Mick a B.J. Laser surgeons are running brisk practices erasing old tattoos. Last edited by dmoolenaar; 07-14-2003 at 09:36 AM.. |
