While I hold no ill will toward any of the Rgruppe, most are freindly and helpful, the cars are great, although the yearly gathering cost needs a bit better value, but as of late the criteria for membership appears arrogant. Send in your application and we will decide if you are Rgruppe material?? We don't want you in the group if you can't attend all of the events? We are limiting membership to 300 the rest will be rgruppies? While I am sure its not the case it appears on the surface of taking yourselves a bit too seriously for such a 'laid back' group. And while I can assure you 'I get it' this is only an opinion and observation. Its the cars and the people that make the group, not the other way around.

Kris there you went and did it again...you fked up...you offered your apology...but you kept on ranting and showed your true nature. You just can't let go of the fact that the R Gruppe is NOT Perfect man...It ain't the Virgin Mary. You can't roll with the punches and laugh at your own fkups...you take yourselves way too seriously...and there is no reason to. You all really need to look seriousily at what you should defend and what you should let slide off your backs...it seems like whenever anyone says anything the least bit critical of the R Gruppe...you guys put your storm trooper boots on and go stomp the guy. For what to make sure the Virgin Mary of Porsche Gruppes honor and santicity is upheld....meanwhile what your really doing is tearing down anything thats really good about the Gruppe...your running her reputation through the mud with your arrogance which you guys call defending her honor. Quiet frankly Cris I could never be a member of your Gruppe, your attitudes towards differences of opinion is too narrow for me. Thats what my first posts with regards to the R Gruppe were all about...I was testing you to see just how much tolerance you guys had...and you failed. I finially quit trying with you guys about 7 or 8 months ago. Your truly not worth the effort. |
David,
Your first post..... "RGruppe is the club that invited me to join, took my $50US and haven't contacted me since (it's been over 2 months!)! I'm starting to think that I've been scammed... Cris Huergas hasn't even returned the follow-up e-mails I've sent. If he's changed his mind, I'd like my $ back." ..... doesn't sound like a tongue-in-cheek response to me. That's the danger of trying to communicate in our human ways. The way we transmit is sometimes lost in the reception, then we get all worked up based on what we perceive someone said instead of what he meant. This applies to everyone. I doubt, in a face-to-face meeting, many of the same things said here would be said in the same manner. At least that's my liberal side of interpreting human nature. But then again, I could be wrong. Sherwood |
I frankly don't see anything wrong with the above quote...If your sitting without a response after you tried repeatedly youd begin to wonder to?? Whats going on, have I been taken advantage of...I'd even ask the question on this board to see what other people thought...No this guy has acted in good faith and a followed a reasonable course of action. Noiw while the R gruppe admits it Fked up, which again Cris has other responsibilities in life to uphold is understandable and reasonable. What is not understandable and not reasonable is for the Porsche community to sit by and listen to a diatribe about great and wonderfull the R Gruppe is and how lucky people should to be allowed to join....that comes off like jacked booted thugs stomping somebody to me, and thats not reasonable.

you know as I read everyone’s posts bashing the Rgruppe and repeatedly bashing Cris I can't help but wonder - how many of these guys will still show-up at an Rgruppe event and act like nothing ever happened? Many I think.
You can't have a club if there is not some common criteria. And someone needs to be a judge of that criteria. In our case it is Cris. And who can blame Cris for getting ticked and trying to respond to these attacks? Ask yourself, if it were your club would you not do the same? There seems to me to be a very simple solution to the disagreements evident in this post - you guys go and make your own group. There is nothing stopping you from doing it and you can then set (or not set) criteria for being a member. Heck, you can get together and trash talk other groups since that seems to be a common trait among you. If you think that groups such as ours are lame then why not just live and let live and leave us be? Oh and just for the record, my car is not perfect and when folks see it and the next Cambria meet they will see a hotrod 911 with many imperfections and yes, it was accepted into the club. That doesn't sound like an elitist group to me. Nope, just a bunch of like minded Porsche fans. |
I must be really bored: I actually decided to wade thru this thread ....... what a bunch of crap. I wonder how many of you critics out there have actually met R-Gruppe members in person? Not many, I suspect, or your opinions would be much different. In fact, I even met one who was accepted with a non-backdated SC!!! That kinda throws a wrench into the gears, doesn't it? -- Curt

"I even met one who was accepted with a non-backdated SC!!!'
Curt, Quite true. There's even some friggin' kid and a guy with a repair shop with 914-6s. What makes them so special? :) Other than wearing an RGruppe event t-shirt (not exclusive BTW), you can't tell if the person you're talking to is "official" or not. Geez, you can't even tell by their car anymore. They're either stock looking, RS types or other. Generally, I thought I could tell by quality of eye contact, non-specific banter and a portable PAP smear test rig (no volunteers yet), but of the people I meet, most fall into the unpretentious, nice folks category. Maybe I should get out more. Sherwood |
uhm. .. WHAT!?
You lost me, Curt. Who's being critical of R-Gruppe members (as a whole . . . other than tabs) ? . . and what does accepting this or that type of 91 . . . .oh, I see. ;) We now return to "As the Pelican Churns" . . |
On another note...
Just got back from an RGruppe run down to San Diego t'day....we had 6 cars from O.C. then met up with 3 more at breakfast (thk$ Ted:) ) then we all proceeded to the Coranado Navel airbase and watched vintage races for most of the day. Tons of interesting nostalgic race cars in the pits...those McLaren's were the Bomb !!!
Also saw a real '70 911ST as well as a '74 RSR up close and then out on the track....I was down on my knees peeking in everywhere.....both had me wanting bad !!!! A great day with true buddies..... |

Sorry to use your post in this way. There are many fine R Gruppe members. But, what I have seen from the R Gruppe members on this thread is exactly what you have said, "a bunch of crap" and snobery in its purest form. Thank God I'm not worthy of such snobery. At least I hope I'm not. Perhaps I need Cris' opinion on my fitness before I make such a bold statement. I would not want to speak for the omnipotent R Gruppe authority. |

My first post about the R gruppe in this thread actually said some nice things about them...about Curtis helping Sam and Cris having alot of responsibility. The rest was obviously tongue in cheek poking fun at them in a fun kinda way.
My second post basically reiterated my arguement with the Gruppe that has gone on for several years...yet I still maintained and even keel trying to put my thooughts and feelings into terms that would be understandable to them....yet my fustration with them has shown through in that post. My third post again gave the R Gruppe some credit, yet reiterated that they can and do come off as being inreasonable at times... That is the absolute reality of the 3 posts I have made so far on this thread. I have to say that I feel that for the most part feel an adversarial type of kinship with them...I don't hate them but do bash them for their intransigence... I guess the central point I have to make with them is that the R Gruppe ain't the Virgin Mary so let it go...and if you could let it go you could laugh at yourselves and stop making yourselves into appearing to be a bunch of serious idiots. Then the good side of the R Gruppe would shine through...but until that happens it's gona be more of the same old, same old arguement all the time with nothing getting resolved. Ouiet frankly I'm tired of chasing the same ole rabbit down the hole...so I'm gona let them cook themselves. |
R Gruppe was out at the Vintage races today.
Tomorrow some will be at the local AX. Anyone else running there cars here?? Stand up stuff Cris! The kid not accepting the full $100 was fair too. Nothing left but for the arm chair guys to add the drama. Arriving at the Vintage races this morning... Jae's 400hp widebody looking good. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1065932907.jpg |
exc911ence; that is one cool website you've got there.
Where was this pic (below) shot ? . ..on a "private road" in Vancover, maybe? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1065984464.jpg |
The pic of my unworthy 912 was taken on a nice winding road that leads up to an observatory here in Victoria, BC. Lots of curves and hairpins as it winds up the mountain. You should come visit! :)

does this pap smear test have anything to do with the sheep mentioned in another post?
Inquiring minds want to know... |

Kidding, of course, about the RV anyway. My wife and I do have plans to take the (unacceptably modern:rolleyes: ) SC island-hopping, around the Gulf Islands, next weekend. I think that a certain "winding observatory road" just made thee destination list. ;) I'll e-mail ya for details. . . and maybe you can be the admirable Porsche colleague and get back to me in, say, 4-months. . .that is the standard; right? ;) |
