He could well have been innocent in that, having no idea just what kind of a thread he was about to unleash. My granddad used to always say, "Know the room before you open your mouth." But hey...it's an honest mistake. It's also an easy one to take the wrong way.
You're correct... I should not have used the word "scammed", it truely does only have negative connotations. It was indeed, used as a lure, albeit, using a deep-sea Tuna lure on a minnow WAS a tad overkill to say the least. I ended up pissing many people off but eventually, got the desired response from Cris. The thing I guess I still have a problem with is this: If Cris had the time to post both his excellent apology as well as the flaming follow-up here, how come he didn't have time to send me a quick e-mail once my info landed in his hands? Since the RGruppe is not accepting members at the present time, it's not like he's receiving hundreds of cheques everyday like the PCA is... a club that did contact me immediately upon receiving my payment.

To sum up: incorrect wording in my response made me many new enemies as well as quite a few compatriots. It's nice to see that the RGruppe guys have so much pride in their club, we should all be envious, but I still think that some of the replies here were a tad harsh.

'Nuff said. Where's my beer?

by far the easiest thing to do is hate everyone equally. And live on an island. And have guns. Lots of guns. And liquor. And maybe a home for wayward 18-24 year old girls.

Smile My 2cents

I was told about this post on Saturday morning at the R Gruppe run to Coronado for the races and just had a chance to read all the posts. Man, that was EXHAUSTING!
It's very intresting to me the level of passion being expressed by both sides. It's one thing to poke fun but, another thing when you poke someone's eye with a sharp stick. Then say it was his fault because he got angry or his friends jumped in to help defend him.
I for one have tried very hard to welcome all P-car people to any of the R Gruppe events we have had here in So Cal. The R Gruppe is 180o from being snobs but, we are not for everybody and don't try to be. Do you really think that any of us 911 guys would be welcomed with open arms to join a Boxter, 914, or any other type clubs if we showed up in our 911? If you have ever been to any of our events I think you will find that most of any negetive things you've heard about the R Gruppe just aren't true.
The R Gruppe was started to fill a void, sports purpose, hot rodded early 911's. It has always been leave your ego at home and bring you enthusiasm for late 60's to early 70's Porsches.

All the best!

Wink Tabs record beat!

Hey Tabs,

I may be wrong but, I sure don't remember any of your post going 9 pages?
You may have just been bested by the monster you created with your keyboard. Shades of Dr. Frankenstein or was that Frodreck Fronkenstein?

All the best!

The Kool Aid Kids

Well Roger considering that I was working off a 270 odd member Registry Board at the time I did pretty well...

The R Gruppe is a cult and should change their name to the Kool Aid Kids aka Jones Town Boyz....

I think it's time for the critics to come clean. How many of you have taken what sounded like just another cool idea over a few beers and actually developed it into a 300 person club? A club whose name has become part of the lexicon within the worldwide Porsche community to describe an entire genere of cars? A club whose annual event is arguably the premier early 911 event in the entire world? And then ask yourself if you write a periodic newsmagazine that blows away Excellence, 911 & P World, and Pano put together for early car info?

If you're still answering 'yes' to these questions, have you done it in your spare time while working at your 'real' job and raising a family? Have you done it without any financial compensation, but purely for the love of this particular type of Porsche?

When you criticize somebody's baby, expect to get kicked in the teeth. Hard. -- Curt

DISCLAIMER: Before someone gets their underwear in a knot, this is a joke. But, like most jokes, there might be a shread of truth in there somewhere.

Uh...Dr. Be careful! Boy, are you lucky you asked me to assist today. That is the kick-someone-in-the-teeth nerve over there. Don't disturb that!! I accidentally disturbed that nerve during one of my brain surgeries and the results were disasterous.

This patient must belong to an exclusive club. It seems that in most patients, that nerve is located deep within the temporal lobe. However, in patients that belong to exclusive clubs, the nerve presents itself where it can be accidentally stimulated during a procedure. Once it is activated, the rest of the brain shuts down, normal function is suspended and the patient exhibits violent kicking and screaming.

Lother where's the punch line? no pun intended.

What do you call 6 pelican heads in a basement discussing R Gruppe?

Whine cellar.

OK it was meant to be 6 pilots in a basement.

New rules, since the message content is gone, from now on with every new post you must at least provide a 900 series picture too.

What if the US had not adopted those silly 5 mph bumper requirements. Perhaps the 911 from 1974 forward would have been updated to this clean looking front and rear end forever more.

Is there really much else that separates the long-hood following from the scrappy mid-year and SC crowd?

These are still my favorites.

So you're say'n the gruppmeister was acting like a baby. . .okay; I suppose you've got a valid point there.

Curt, seriously, by your logic, if Hillary Clinton makes some dumb-ass remark, you have no right to call her on it. . .because you've never been a Senator.

Island - criticize all you want, but don't whine about getting kicked (or punched) in the teeth for doing it!

Oh, and here's my obligatory 900 series pic:

Yes, I'm glad you understand the concept of equivocation. Perhaps you'll get to the point where you can see the OVERT usage in that "baby" line. (smiley was included, followed by the next "seriously" line to help distingish between "serious" and "fun word play")

"invite you outside for an ass whooping."
Is this more r-groupe reaching-out for that "degree of civility" ? (that was sarcasm, btw)

"If you want to join RGruppe, ask to join like you do any private club."
Now thats funny. If you havn't caught on, I don't care for "private clubs" . ..just call me island.

edit: got to go, for now; so feel free to pile it on. I'll see ya tomorow.
