Recovering corrupt data from a FDD

Can anyone give me some tips on how to recover this file?

Its a .jpeg that I need to print out. When I saved it on the floppy (FDD) at my client's office... it was fine. However, upon trying it on my home computer...Windows can not open it.

I took it to Kinkos, but they couldnt open it there either. The guy told me that the file has truncated data.

Is this thing toast...or is there a way that I can recover the truncated data on the disk?

thanks in advance.

How big is the .jpg? I've got a couple of tools I could try, but if it truly is truncated data, you might need to get another copy. Without the disk, it's tough to tell.

If you want, email it to me. I'll see what I can do with the file. The only disk recovery tool I've got at home is too big to email.

Ice...thanks for the offer, but I cant get it off of the FDD... if I could then Id open it myself. What happens...is that Windows gives an error message saying that it cant open it.

No program will open it, even MS Paint, so I was hoping that there may be a special program that could specialize in corrupt data or something...

Norton disk doctor can probably fix it. If possible, make an image of the floppy as well (don't know how under windows, really easy under linux).

I'm trying to find my copy of NDD - if I've still got it (haven't used it for a while...) I'll zip it and try to send it to you.

You probably have bad sectors on the Diskette....probably physically defective. Very tough if not impossible to recover a JPG is this situation.

I would copy the file from the diskette to your hard drive and use one of these utilitys. If you can't copy try running against the diskette directly.

It could also be possible that the source diskette drive can read but not others. I 've seen this happen but not recently.

When the JPG info stream (or header) is interupted by a void in compressed information it is near impossible to fix. The file must be refigured and rebuilt. Only a JPG rebuild utility will do that. It is not handled the same as other files that Norton DD can fix.

Try to read it in a different floppy drive, on a few different computers. The disk dive alignment may be off.
