911 values - what's rarity/desire worth?

When figuring a fair value for a car (a 911), what is rarity or desireability worth? I know open cars are more desired, and therefore typically more expensive... but what about rarity? For example, the '89 Turbo Speedster - 800 or so made for US market, not sure about RoW, and they seem to command a premium. Is this a (turbo+open==$$) value, or is the fact that so few produced worth something as well?

I know in the world of 356s that rarity does have an affect on value - look at the gmund coupes, or late year Carreras, etc. for examples. But what about for 911s, and at what point does it kick in?

well, the 993 is generally considered "more desirable" than 964s and early 996s, and its value is depreciating substantially more slowly than either of those cars. Rarity surely has a lot to do with it, but I think desirability is the deciding factor. For example, do you really think that a 924 'Martini' edition will go for more than a normal 924?

it's all in the eye of the beholder if you ask me

what does who want in it

there are some notable classics that go beyond reason (911RSR, 930 turbo) and are true classics, but other than those exclusives, it's impossible to get clear rules on this, because everybody likes different aspects on a 911, some want driver comfort, some want raw fun/hard work, some people want the original 911 first series, some prefer SC's ....

personally it's the targa, last of the first series...
and no other 911 will knock that one off the #1 spot on my list

there is the '79 SC...the pinnacle of form and function. It drops off as you go later or earlier from there.

See...that was simple.

hmmm , but then again, some people would argue that the newer bumpers and other small thingies make it less classic, not dissing your car here, but personally i prefer the older lines, the long hood, the chrome details, MFI , no Cat...

and let's think concours here, which would be more valuable
a 100% 69
or
a 100% 79

the question was rarity
don't know , how much SC's have there been made?

long hood...RS this, RSR that....peeshaw.

'79. tops. period. simple. next.

As for rarity? There was only one '79 made with my VIN number. One. How much more rare can you get than that?

I rest my case. And my head...it needs a rest. It kinda hurts too. I think I need a new medication. The purple ones aren't working so good any more.

That's just becuase they were on a 5-year product planning cycle. They rested when they finished conceiving the '79.

The blue ones gave me a rash. Have you tried the red and green ones? I was thinking that given the holiday season...

Sorry about that... yes, the speedster with the turbo look body...

The Club Sport you mention - is that the M491 option aka SuperSport aka Turbo Look?

No, there was a Carrera Club Sport, I have this months GT Purely Porsche buying guide in front of me. Only 340 examples made.

Launched in 1987 and weighed 1172kg; had less equipment, funky graphics, revised suspension etc. Everything you expect from a club sport model. I can't see why you'd pay the massive price difference (worth a lot due to rarity, GTPP reckons 20-30k UKP for a good one).

A 924 Turbo is a pretty rare car these days (there can't be more than a handful on the road), but it still is worth nothing.
Oh, I'm sure there're still plenty of 'em on the road. It's just that so few have made it back...
