this is the best forum so far...

i recently had to subscribe to another forum. a car audio forum. those people are lame. they actually give you hell for posting a less than intellegent question. no, not a un-intellegent question, actually a basic question. here, that really never happens, i know because i have posted some questions that have made we flinch when i pressed send. now if i can get my ass off the computer so i can get some work done..... cliff p.s. they never answered my question...

It is a good forum - Porsche owners are largely polite! Post your car audio question here - in particular "bell" works in the industry and knows his stuff (and is good at answering questions), and there are a few enthusiasts.

Narf! Poit! (Couldn't resist, I am also a big Pinky & The Brain fan) You may still get that here. I asked about the flight speed of an unladen African swallow and all I got was some dumb answers about coconuts and European swallows!

FYI - my perspective is that for small jobs with 12X12 tile or smaller the little $100 jobbers will do fine. Actually I did 600 sq/ft of 17X17 with my little plasplugs saw. Tossed the plastic fence/guide, it was useless. I just eyeballed the longer cuts. For more tile work a better quality saw (sliding table, strong motor) will make the job much easier. Most folks on JB will recommend a better saw like the Felker. Here's a link to that thread

yep. lots of RTFM "read the fuking manual" responses and flaming on noobies and low posters. actually great info and has saved me big $$$ but there are some real characters over there. there is one guy tho that is a real tribute, he put together a compilation of links for a6s that is unbelievable. ialmost anything you EVER wanted to know about a6 and it's problems is there.

i like how we almost turned this into a bathroom link. to the tilecutter above, i just recently retiled the kitchen floor. i layed everything out, ran to home depot rented a tile cutter for $40. and cut all the tiles in one day. returned it that night. it was painless. i tried on of those little saws, maybe i sucked, but my cuts were not that good.

fixed has got it on two counts. lay out all the tile for cutting and before you mix any thinset. tile floors are easy, try around a sink, faucet or other fixtures. actually my buddy did some tile for the first time and it was S. i spoke with his wife and she ended up redoing it and it looked tits.

oh yea, i here bell is the audio fanatic here. my battery was draining on my truck, i pulled the fuses for my amps and tested current across the open circuit (ignition off). one amp was drawing 19Ma and the other was around 9Ma. i lifted the carpet and noticed the 19Ma draw wire had a yellow wire spliced to it. traced that down to the constant 12+volt wire on the head unit. so as far as i can tell, the installer did a ok job, except where he got lazy with the splice. but that yellow wire is to keep my clock/radio stations programmed so it should be a tiny draw. just wondering if i should even see a current at the two amps with the ignition off. my gut tells me i should see no current. i am thinking of hooking up a separate relay for the two amp power wires, and re-running the yellow wire to a direct 12V connection. wadyathink? so far my new battery is ok. thanks bell. cliff

I know very little about 'amps,' but the relay sounds like a good idea. The other thing is to jump on the amp manufacturer website and check out recommended wiring procedures. IMHO, you don't need a draw on your battery to the extent that you can't leave your truck for a couple of weeks and not be able to start it. And too, the amps should be direct wired anyway. They draw big time, don't they? Splicing just puts the draw on some circuit that may not be designed for the load. Last edited by Zeke; 12-11-2003 at 06:19 PM..
