A friend of mine just got a new Ford F-150 4 door. It has an 8" subwoofer under the rear drivers side seat. He has two amps and two 10" or 12" subwoofers from his previous vehicle.
Here is what he wants to do... Drive one of the subs with one amp and the other speakers with the other amp. Our plan was to modify the existing sub box or build a new one. There isn't much free space in the cab, So I was hoping some of the experts could help me execute my plan. Being a new model it is hard to get any info on what to do. 1. Is it possible to put a 10 or 12 in the cab? Maybe move the jack to create a bigger sub box? 2. Where should I mount the amps? 3. Where is the original amp located? Does it just drive the sub or the whole system? 4. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the existing stereo equipment? Or how should I wire the new stuff? Thanks

damn, i dont know the source, but i think crutchfield carries them, i think. but these are custom made enclosers that fit under the backseats. when you are talking 10 or 12's. that is not enough info. some subs are design for compact boxes some are not. i have a 10" solobaric (spelling?) that only requires .66 cubic feet of space. (airtight) that is a tiny box. i have it in the back of my ZR2 S10. i bet the factory amp just drives the sub. mounting the amps will be a
bitC!+!. under the seats are your only options. and as far as wiring, i would go with a harness that snaps into the factory wiring. except the amps wire directly to a 12+. good luck, now that i am starting to get older/wiser, personally i will get the best factory stereo available and leave it at that. i have had enough with electrical problems. that and i have permanently damaged my left ear. (loud stereos, loud sportbikes, and loud guns)

if it's a 2004 and has a factory sub than there is probably a stock amp driving every speaker, you can pick up a harness that will let you utilize the stock amp with an aftermarket radio, if you run an aftermarket amp you MUST bypass the stock amp or you will be blowing up some electronics.
if you want to use the stock radio you'll need to use a line converter (speaker to rca's) after the stock amp, and use a quality one. there are a few mfg's for the "stealth" boxes...MTX thunderforms and JL stealthbox, you can order the mtx without a sub but the parameters may be off to what your friend has. is it a crew cab or the 4-door 2 seater? if it has the rear seats your options are pretty good and you do have a little room to play around.....2 seater though and he'll be limited.........

Get a louder exhaust and turn the radio off.
