That sounds kind of like the uber-Christian but porn-addicted senator trying to ban "obscenity".

(Allow me to clarify: you've made your share of "contributions" to the OT forum--and often dive in to the most heated debates)

What little I've read of the political-themed threads on the OT board make me quickly close them, and move back to the 911 stuff. There are a lot of guys here who share my interest in 911's, who are also total nut-jobs when it comes to other issues. So be it.

My advice to everyone would be to not participate in the political threads. It never improves things to pick a fight with an idiot.

Well, I obviously see it differently. Maybe because this is the only online community that I have ever participated in and enjoy political debate, but mostly because this is a good cross-section of (mostly) normal people with whom I disagree vehemently over major issues. And it is all harmless IMO, as long as certain basic rules of civility are observed. And they ususally are.

It has definitely crossed my mind that many board members might cease to be interested in helping me w/ 911 advice once they find out that I don't share their political views, (at all), but that is a small price to pay for the privelege of good debate. I don't know about anyone else, but it has always fascinated me how good people can disagree so completely on major issues and the direction that our country, and the world is going in. And I consider almost all of my debating adversaries here good people. The ones who aren't, who cares about them.

Our society is too polite in this area, IMO, we are largely uninformed and fat and happy in the U.S., IMO. Political debate is the healthiest thing on earth and the surest sign of a vital democracy, and there is nothing more interesting than politics.

Can anyone recommend somewhere else on the web where this type of debate is allowed?

Well, that would be pretty narrow-minded.
I could care less about your political views, Denis. And if I can render any help with your Porsche, just say the word.

I totally agree that we, as a whole, could more largely benefit from a less integrated renuberation of our collective ideals. Yet, this CLEARLY contradicts the very basis upon which we have so adamantly, albeit loquaciously, rendered our stances on pantces.

whew! I've been absolutely DIEING to get that off my chest.
I feel so much better.

ENGINE ROOM!!....where the hell's my drink?

Besides, anything that weighs less than a very small pebble, CAN float.

Nah! I don't let politics get into my friendships or my interest on this board. Denis, I bet if we all got Starbucks coffee like you suggested last Saturday, we'd be saying the same crap we said on the Wayne-deleted thread; and with even more colorful language at that.

I agree with Jack's actions; if someone doesn't like the topic, don't get involved in the discussion. According to Wayne he was getting emailed about the subject matter, verbiage and other scurilous minutae involving the Bush on TV thread you started, and hence, deleted it because of that.

I for one saw nothing harmful in anything said on that thread, and those who complained surely showed their inability to make decisions on their own to go to another thread. I can see the technical forum, the rebuilding forum and the autox forum being more of "a business forum." The OT forum is the perfect place to let off steam and use skills other than what we know of about our cars. I've learned far more from the OT board than anything on the Technical board. Besides, Porsches get boring once in a while. Humanity is NEVER boring.

I thoroughly enjoyed the thread you started. And BTW, I'd do an engine drop with you any day.

Oh, P.S. I think maybe the powers that be should look into deleting the "New Name for The UN" thread. That's getting beyond Waltons dinnertime talk for my virgin Catholic eyes.

Thanks, Doug and David! I enjoy your presence on this board very much, and I guess that this makes another point. This board is such a perfect example of what I like about America and Americans. (And Canadians like you, Doug, which are of course Americans too).

Most of the guys around here, (and women, though I've never seen one in an OT slugfest), , are really, really good sports when it comes to switching from boxing gloves to torque wrenches and Gunson testers. Or Island 911 valve adjustment tools, which are a biatch to use w/ boxing gloves on.

It is a very special situation where people can maybe listen to another point of view because we have this other "guy thing" in common, WE ARE PELICANHEADS!

And just for the record, If Bush or Rumsfeld buys an old 911 I will help them w/ my opinions on Fuchs finishes, etc.

you saw that too? I thought I was just having a flashback...

I cannot understand why anyone would:

a. read an OT thread
b. get "offended"
c. complain to Wayne.

That is absolutely idiotic. Unless someone sent PM messages that were threatening (which btw have happened to some of us), and even then I wouldn't go crying to daddy. I *did* request that a thread be deleted, but that was a thread *I* started, and wanted it deleted for reasons that were obvious to everyone.

If you don't like it...don't read it. If you read it, don't complain.

my eyes! my eyes! I'm ruined for life!

Ummm...so what was the thread you wanted deleted?

Oh, never mind? I once had that problem too. Did they also tell you it's "a chosen behavior?"

ok, it is like all others forms of expression. if i dont like it, i dont tune in. for example, the ellen degeneres show. i dont tune in. howard stern? i tune in. threads about bush, i file with ellen.

looks like we dont need political talk anymore, we now have freedom of speech as the new hot potato.

for the one that snitched: next time, just tune out friend.
i still think the korea thread is on the endangered list.

Especially you, Texas Mark. You've always been my friend here, never in doubt. We bonded over something bigger than even Porsches, dogs.

Same w/ Noah, Island, etc... People that I like and that I like to argue with. I am 100% Irish American, arguing is a sign of affection w/ us.
