Any Speed Racer fans?

My license plate is MYMACHV . It only makes sense to guys in a very narrow age range. Maybe now that Speed Racer is running on Speedvision I won't get some many puzzled looks concerning the plate.

That's a pretty cool plate. Not as obscure as, say, CHIM2.

I watched Speed Racer a little as a kid. Now my daughter really likes it. She even has a Speed Racer hat.

I'm surprised you didn't get more responses. I guess you must be really old, dude - just kidding, I've crossed the 40 line myself.

So, to try out my 911's obscure plate on you guys, any idea what REZIPSA means?

"Chim-Chim's Badass Revenge"?

(It's even more interesting live.)

I forgot how violent Speed Racer is. I bought the DVD that came out recently. It's full of firey car crashes, fist fights, guns, knives, smoking etc. I can't believe that my parents let me watch that stuff... probably explains a lot about my temerment. My 3.5 year old wanted to know about my Speed Racer T-shirt so I thought I'd show her the opening credits... when the car breaks through the guard rail and explodes she got a really concerned and scared look on her face. When she asked, "What happened to that car, Daddy?" I figured I'd have to wait until she's older to show her more.

40 hits in April for me. Seems like from 40 to 50 is when everything really falls apart. Oh well. It's all down hill from here. No offense to the old(er) f@rts!

Speed Racer - ah a subject for a cartoon man.

Much ahead of its time was that show.

I'd watch it and "Kimba The White Lion."

Speed Racer was evidentally a bee-yatch to dub by American actors because the Japanese-to-English translations resulted in very, very long sentences. Often the voice talent had to pause in the middle of a dialogue line to catch their breath.

Speed Racer art is some of the most collectible animation known. They are extremely rare - more so than the classic Disney animated movies. A single Speed Racer animation cel with Speed standing in front of the Mach V sells for $35,000.

Hollywood has forever tried to produce a Speed Racer movie, but can't seem to get it done.

Lately at the L.A. auto show, a guy's been showing up who reproduces "real" Mach V cars. Selling price: $60,000 last I heard.

Charitable mention to "Kimba:" If you think "Simba" you realize from where part of the inspiration for "The Lion King" came.

Ahh! Oh no! Speed's in trouble. I hope we can get to him in time!"

I have my computer running in a Speed Racer graphic and sound mode. Speed stands in real life size card board in my office/basement. Speed tins in the garage, and as you can see above, Speed is on my car too!

I asked for the 52 episode DVD set for Christmas, but we'll see. I have the first 13 episodes on DVD now and the kids love watching it with me.

..."he's a demon on wheels..."

Rumor is that folks are trying to make a live action movie with Johnny Depp as Speed. Others have tried, but not been able to seal the deal.

Maybe David can get the rights to the film and we can make one..with Pelican 911's as the bad guys ..it'll be a hit. All 911's against the Mach V ... Porsche Victory by Design meets Anime Speed!

Edit: I forgot the age thing...I'm 32! So figure that out..you old farts (JK) ... I was still kicking dust around in a third world country when Speed was originally aired in the States, but MTV (one of their few great ideas) use to run Speed Racer every day when I was in college. The dubbing was great after a few beers...reminds me of the dubbing for Iron Chef! "ummm yeah ..ummm ahhhh! I think it's going to be really very delicious, don't you agree..ahhh..Oh.I see he's putting the squid eyes in a butter wine sauce....excusisan (sic) ...I'm down here with Motsimoto and he's ......ahhh! Ohhhh! Ummmm!"

Never knew "Marine Boy." Enlighten me on that one.

Another after-school favorite: "Ultraman."

Cool stuff!

Speed Rules.

Every time Racer X appears and they have to replay the entire flashback of him crashing the car and running from Pops.

When Speed asks him in the one epsiode "are you my brother?" and Racer X punches him in the gut and runs away.

Speed gets all doped up to drive the fastest car--what was it X-1 or something

"Your scheme is up Bin Schemer"--Speed to Ali Bin Schemer.

"Here is the secret film filmed secretly" The head of Spying Spys INC. during a briefing

Was anyone else freaked out by the sound the "monster car" made and that crazy doll that was hanging from the rear view mirror in one episode?

Yep, that would be cool. I like the "new" Speed Racer song on their web site:
