Question New/Used car advice needed...

Folks,

I'm looking for a new/used car for my wife, and have pretty much settled on an Audi A6. I've done a search for some info on them here and elsewhere, and have found a couple of good things, but I'm needing some more detail and feedback.

I've got a line on a 2000 Quattro 2.8 with about 48K on the odo, and an Audi Certified warranty for 2 years additional (we'll hit that before we get to the 100,000 mile part...)

What can you tell me about them from a longevity standpoint, maintenance, reliability, level of overall satisfaction? I'm planning on a PPI for it as well just for kicks and grins. Is there anything about these cars that I should watch out for?

TIA!

The A6 was ranked as one of the most unreliable cars as I recall, but I think that was in poart due to the 2.7T model (the turbos liked to go "boom"). The 2.8 engine is pretty bombproof. My wife loves her A8, but we got lucky with some repairs that got done right before it went off extended warranty...tranny replacement and power steering pump nonsense...$15K. If we hadn't had the warranty it would have been ugly. Now, we just drive it and pray a lot.

I will never buy a new car. I always buy used, and always pay cash.

I recently bought a 2001 Chevy pick-up. Sticker was 30,000, I paid 20,000, and it still has the factory warrenty.

Latest ratings say that German quality has slipped some while domestic quality has improved. Might want to try the car rental agencies that sell off their fleet on a regular basis. I have had very good luck over the years, and their selectios usually contain Asian as well as domestic iron.

Thanks Todd. I'm thinking hard about nixing the used A6 and heading for a used A4 instead. Gotta do some more thinking testing driving reading.

Thanks again guys.
