Is this the show with the two brothers hosting? Or is that on TNT or TBS? That show is more of the same genre.

Frank: your analysis of the show is spot on: too much Bling for my shizzle. (Did I just swear?!? )

i love my porsche as much as anyone else in this forum but you guys are sounding a little elitist in my opinion

though i don't really have an interest in the cars that they work on in that show, at least there is a show about aftermarket tuning that isn't strictly about hot rodding. if a show like that generates enough interest, i'm sure a something dedicated to european tuning would come about so enough with the playa hatin'

dj_yen:
I don't think anyone here is being elitist: no one ever said "I own a Porsche and everything else is crap."

It's just that there are many naive young kids in the import craze crowd that believe a cone intake will add 200 hp to their Honda, which these shows are kinda saying.

I think even the guys driving beat down Skodas would laugh at this show.

The import grrrl that I was dating for a while would be glued to it tighter than most chix would be to "The Bachelor"

I looked for any redeeming value in the Rice show but couldn't find any - nada. However, the girl hostess is cutish even though she doesn't know what she's talking about (probably the script). The other show, "Two Guys Garage" or something is about 5 minutes of info; the rest of the show is a commercial exercise. I guess that's how they decide on their show topics - product donations from the little guys like Edelbrock.

If I were producing the show, I'd let viewers see how the pros do it. Couldn't they visit some race shops or machine shops or engine rebuilding shops? Didn't that formula work with "This Old House"? (Steve and Norm made house calls only because their machinery is more portable and the house wasn't).

The guy on the Meguiar's show (Mr. Mequiar) flashes his pearly whites too often and is too patronizing. Everything is great, even that shiny vintage golf cart or that show car that only rolls on and off the hermetically-sealed trailer onto the concours grassy knoll (I'm not a concours fan).

Autoweek is auto weak. Perhaps the Motor Trend of car testing on the tube.

In fact, between the 1/2 mile dirt track races, NASCAR/BUMPERCAR coverage and these silly consumer shows, I'm not sure why I'm sticking with Speed. Oh, I know, F1 and WRC coverage, but that's only about 3 hrs. a week (if even) ... in peak season.

Have a happy new year everybody,
Sherwood

I don't see a big difference between Ricing and Hot-Rodding, except the engine are smallers.

Well I do serge, there's a huge difference in the quality of work being done ( at the home garage) amateur and the quality of qork being done Professionally ( in a garage) The Rice crowd ( I'll get to dj yen in a minute) seems to belive that dressing yourcar up to look like cartoon "Afghanistanimation style" makes you cool. THe entire concept of "adding a body kit" to mommy's hyundai will make you a rad guy, or Phatting out your dad's Kia, will make everyone staring at you (while in dads car) give you the disillusion of thinking you are a cool guy. well, it's not, since the work being done on these cars is mostly dangerous and sometimes illegal, adding a body kit to an economy car is just stupid and not coiol at all. Making your accord lower, is and can be catastrophic. It just sucks. So does taking a nice muscle car and turning it into a redneck cadillac, jacking it up to the sky and dropping in a big block isn't such a great idea either.
If a car wasn't designed to be a performance car, then don't try to turn it into one.
Dj_yen, Playa hatin?.. who's playa hatin?.. who ever mentioned Playa in the first place..Oh you did! that's right.. you wouldn't happen to be a "playa" would you? get lost, and come up with a real argument. what is a playa anyway? a race or is it just another word like Fly guy, or good old boy, or mod, or hippie, or short hair, or something more offensive?

my 2 cents

If you have seen the Pep Boys TV commercial where a "dude" shows off his ricey ride (fully loaded with crap from PB's), then you have a window into this fad.
It's their thing, and they can have it.

I own a Pore-sha and everything else is crap

"...then you have a window into this fad.

Exactly right. It is a fad, and will pass. It started as a group of people doing different things to their cars to stand out... and then the mainstream said, "yeah me too" and everyone was doing it (failing to realize that by 'personalizing' their Honda Civic, they are being like every other Honda Civic owner in their age group).

I have nothing but respect for the guy that can make a 10-second car out of a beat old CRX. I have nothing but derision for the guy that puts a huge aluminum wing (someone should tell him that downforce isn't a good thing for performance if it isn't needed), annoying fart-can (do they think it actually adds performance? moreover, do they think it sounds GOOD?), tacky decals (ooooh look at me! look at me!), and tasteless body kits (the car was probably faster without the body kit because the panels probably weigh more) and then drives 100mph on the highway because he thinks he has an "import racer"
