The most bizarre animal based food I saw was in a very large "asian" market here in NJ....Pigs' Fallopian tubes. IMO, the chicken claws and pig snouts paled in comparison.

Nothing but that which equates to muscle tissue. Everything else makes my stomach churn, but a good steak...yeah baby. Only beef, fish and poultry.

What interests me is some of the "meat" I used to see when I worked in downtown L.A. On Broadway near 2nd Street, there is a market where you can actually buy bull, cow and pig heads.

And in Chinatown, they've got the ducks, goose and what-not hanging from a rope right in the restaurant/store's front window.

Sure, you're not going to see that at Ralph's, which is okay by me. I only wonder if that stuff is truly "legal" to sell.

Won't touch it? Your bathroom must be a mess.

That's it, you two! I'm deleting this thread! Culinary cuisine is hard enough to come by in this world of dietetic detritus.

Indeed!

(Of course, I've lost the ability to delete threads - I used to have it in the good 'ol days of this board  ).

Okay, just figured out what Uni is. I ate kina (Maori name for sea urchins) straight out of the shell while on a boat once, and I won't do it again.

Actually I probably will, just to see if it is as bad as I thought (like oysters that had gone off).

Okay, going on the Sushi line...

For those who have spent time in Japan...

Ever had Nato? eeeesh!

Is it fish paste?

Hey, and some gov't agency just said wild salmon's safer than farm salmon.

That's wild!

My wife is Greek. I couldn't eat "the soup" even when I was trying to impress her mother.

surflvr911sc 01-08-2004 07:15 PM

Geep head soup, got to love it! Smells great doesn't it?

Natto is fermented soybeans. Think "rotting" soybeans. They're slimy. Definitely an acquired taste.

So is yamaimo. Or, as my wife calls them, "slimy potatoes".

I keep telling her, "'Slimy' means it's gone bad, and you're not supposed to EAT IT!!!"

******WARNING - Do not read further if you're eating your Breakfast! *****

Did anyone watch HBO last night?

I caught the tail end of a show that showed a Mother and I think her two daughters. One of which just had a baby. Somehow the daughter got hold of her....hold onto your chair here.....her...Placenta. (Gulp, gag)....The mother froze it and they went on to show how they seasoned it, cooked and ate it. ...I gotta go......

There is much worse than that. The following link describes how how to carve a human being...Gulp. This is very disturbing because it seems written from hands-on experience.

Disclaimer: I do not

Aurel 01-09-2004 05:42 AM

Humm I hit submit by mistake. maybe it is a sign that I should not share that link. Actually, I think I really should not.

I've heard once that there are some extreme practices of vegetarianism that do this. Man, that's got to be just awful! :(

Not here! ;)

That is uttterly disgusting.

dd74 01-09-2004 09:06 AM

Yeah, I heard about this very long ago. These were some extreme radicals. No animal anything in their lifestyle. I mean, their shoes were made of old tires, which may not be that extreme, but their eating practices nonetheless entailed not eating anything that would effect the ecosystem. So they were extremely choosy in their diet.

I don't know what happened to them. My thoughts are they either starved to death, or gave up and ate each other. :D

RickM 01-09-2004 09:15 AM

Wow, that goes a bit further than your standard veganism.
