Hey meat eaters
So...
What meat won't you eat? I, for one, can't touch veal. I believe most meat should grow up before it's eaten. ...what say you guys? Title edited for content. -Z-man. |
DD,
I don't like entrails. Troy |
I can only imagine what the contents of the title were before Z-man stepped in!
|
I'll eat veal, but don't prefer it. Of the normal meats, I think pork grosses me out the most, ever lived next to a pig farm? I have, and my nose will never forgive me. I won't eat brains or eyeballs, but that's about it. I'll eat almost anything if I'm hungry enough.

Uni - fish meat that is.

Am indiscriminate :D
Well, not really, for instance with beef, I'd rather eat what we call eye fillet (fillet mignon in the US, I think) or sirloin. After that it gets tough and almost not worth the effort as a steak. Other cooking methods for other cuts of beef are fine, of course. Happy with veal, all pig products, wabbit, all poultry. Hmmm, what else? Venison, of course. Have eaten reindeer, horse, crocodile, roo, probably others. And seafood. In fact, I like eating. :D:D:D:D (edit) Not sure about entrails. Treat that on a case by case basis. For instance, at a yakitori bar, chicken hearts and beef tongue are great. Nothing wrong with sheep kidney or brains, chicken livers. Pate = goose livers. Oh crap, so I forgot about a whole food group. Sheeeeeeeeeeep. We have plenty of lamb here, very nice if cooked the right way (especially rack of lamb). |
Tripe, entrails, pig ears marinated in bile, pickled beef tongue, pate, etc. It's all good. For ethical reasons and because of my support of PETA, I do not eat any meat that is not yet dead, unles I'm really hungry.
|
Y'all know PETA really means "Please Eat The Animals."
Cam: so you're pretty much a waste-not-want-not guy. I like that. Pig ears and pigs feet? Uh-uh. After seeing the hooves in a jar of pickles at Phillipe's in downtown L.A., then seeing one of my dad's dogs tearing into an ear, I almost blew chunks...again... I once had tripe, brains and the like. I can be country at times, but that's just too damn "country" for me. :D |
Frog legs, snails, and sucking oysters live. Yummy ! French delicacies. I never tried pig feet and tongue or brain though.

Not a big fan of veal, either.
Don't like pork, either, at least when it is just slabs of pork (like pork chops) or ham. Like sausages, though! |
Not a fan of liver.
Nor Rocky Mtn Oysters. What was the original title, David? PM it to me.:D |
Hey Don: I didn't even notice that Z-man edited the title. I can't remember the exact title to be honest. It wasn't anything lascivious or off-color, which, I'm proud to say, I'm more than capable of.
Weird. Now that I think about it, I think I said: "Hey all you meat eaters out there..." |

How about the worst un-meat? TOFUrkey seems particularly vile.

Veggie burgers always give me heartburn. Get 'em outta' here!
|
I have yet to have somebody tell me "you gotta try Uni". Its always "Ewwwwwwww..."
Someone told me its like concentrated "bad fish taste" in paste form. I also would never eat a dog. |
I draw the line with any organ meat. I'd at least try about anything else.
I was in TX over New Years and my Pa-in-law cooked up some black eyed peas and hog jowl for good luck. I had to give it a shot (how often do you get offered hog jowl?). No worse than a thick cut of bacon, but can't say that I'd order it off a menu in the future. |
Hog jowl - very interesting. I bet if someone was never told it was hog jowl, they'd probably love it.
Brains and tripe - you can tell what it is off the bat. Dog: I worked with a Filipino guy who told me in the Phillippines it is a delicacy - and he loved it. He said dogs are raised to be eaten there. To me, it's like eating a human. Can't do it. Raw fish, on the other hand, particularly sashimi (sp?), I can eat anytime, anywhere. Fugu...now that would be a (dangerous) challenge. |
I've tried just about any meat/animal-based food that's been put in front of me -- I figure, if they (my hosts) eat it, it won't kill me. I don't like brains or eyes, but I did like fried worms (huge ones, too) and chicken sashimi (there was a glitch in my Japanese [probably a sake-induced glitch] that led to that one) though the raw chicken liver was not something I'd order again - I don't think I finished it, actually.
There was a restaurant in Harare (I think) that I really really wanted to get to but missed, called The Carnivore Pit -- Giant Moth Steak (I really wanted to try that), all kinds of snake-based entrees, Crocodile, every ruminant you can imagine, ants, worms, you name it -- if it's protein based and had parents, it was probably on the menu.
