Didn't see that one, but my wife tricked me into watching a few minutes of The Surreal Life. It should have been The Surreal (GET A) Life. Who comes up with this stuff anyway.

The commercials make me laugh my a$$ of though, I'll probably end up watching it. There's a clip where the guy goes up to the girl's dad and he says "I can't wait to sleep with your daughter". ROFLMAO!

Back in the early 70's when Ted Turners 'superstation' was first starting after midnight they had a camera that panned back and forth to show time, temperature and I think barometric pressure - all night until about 6 in the morning - I'd just as soon watch that as most of the other crap thats on the tube now.

While I hate reality TV almost as much as I hate Martha Stewart Living, it seems the "real TV" forumal works:
1. The networks do not have to pay the big salaries of famous actors.
2. People are into watching was they believe are 'real world' situations.
3. People love seeing people like themselves (aka average Joe) on TV: makes them feel better 'bout themselves.
4. People are watching these shows.
5. Advertisers know #4, so they pump more $$ into realality shows.
6. And the viscous cycle starts all over again.

Bottom line: it's a marketing and $$ thing: it costs little to produce these types of shows that are very popular.

Yup, just like Figure skating and Nascar. Big oval-nowhere to go, park two cameras there, two or 3 guys to do commmentary, almost no logistics involved.

My TV viewing consists of Red Wings hockey, American Chopper, Seinfeld reruns and the occasional Speed Channel program. I happen to stumble across a "reality" show the other night with Paris Hilton and some other whore supposedly living in a small southern town. Now that was about the dumbest-assed thing I've seen ..... probably has great ratings though.
