Can you still buy this game in stores?

DC_Geezr 02-22-2004 02:44 PM

SmileWavy Hi all! First post from a new member. Although I don't own a Porsche,I have a love for these cars that has been primarily fed by playing this wonderful game.It is still readily available in stores, usually for less than $15 and although EA "sunsetted" the online public servers last year, there is still a small, but dedicated online community that have been keeping the game alive.;)

I urge all of you,if you love racing games, and porsches in particular, buy this game, finish Evolution Mode(keep all your cars!) finish Factory Driver, and then d/l this free proggie, called IPLounge, created by 2 members of our community that will allow you to race online via IP racing, with a chat window that you can use to chat with other racers, and view and select pits in progress. http://www.rivalstock.com

Here is a link to another forum http://www.racerplanet.com There are links to several PU racing clans where you can find set up tips for all your NFS PU cars,as well as a great forum, like this one, where most of the NFS PU community post.

I know that an arcade racing game is no sustitute for the real thing, but where else can you race a GT1 at 200 mph + speeds,or if you prefer something a little older and slower, any one of about 20 different 356 models? There are up to 84 cars you can own,and race online, and since PU is over 3 years old,the game will run on most newer PC's.

Thanks for coming over Ric! I logged onto IPLounge for the first time last night, I experienced a great welcome and had a great time. The guys gave me tips and continued to encourage me, even though they always had to wait for me at the finish, you guys are fast!

I have never been into gaming but picked up NFS5 1.5 months ago and have had a blast w/ it. See you at IPLounge!

Hi.SmileWavy If I may,I'd like to answer this for ya.I haven't played Evo for a while, but assuming your car has all the right mods(pick the most expensive ones,as a rule) make sure they are in fact, installed.Just buying them isn't enough. You must return to the set up garage, and swap the standard parts for modded parts. You can then sell the old parts to recoup some of your expenses.

Once, the car has all the racing parts installed(For all cars, use high speed gearbox and slicks, even on wet or snowy tracks.)check your downforce and tire pressure levels. For all cars, set tire pressures at 45/45 psi,the meximum.Downforce,as a rule, the older, and slower the car,the less DF you need.In front,in all cars reduce DF to 0.In back, the older cars, like the 356,reduce the DF to 0 here too.

DF for some other cars you will use in Evo..
67 911,73 Carrera RS.. 50/0
87 944...40/0
88 944 Turbo 70/0
78 911 Turbo 80/0
78 Moby Dick 935..90/0
550 Spyder..50/0
Boxsters..50/0
89/90 Carreras..70/0
91/93 Turbos,94-99 Carrreras..90/0
95/00 911 Turbos..100/0
GT1..100/0

For the car, you're racing, the 914,keep the rear DF at about 10,and as I mentioned, the front DF is set at 0.Tese changes will help make the car faster off the line, but if the other cars pass you off the line, just let them go,and stay close,as the AI drivers will slow down too much for corners, allowing you to catch up.

Have fun,buy and keep as many cars as you can,and when you're done the single player stuff, come online via the IPLounge, and race with people from all over the world. I can't explain how much better it is online;it just is! :D

I just got sidetracked playing around with NFS. Decided to compare the 993 & 996 turbos- so alternated quite a few laps of the Cote d'Azur course.
Result-
993 best time 2:08.46
996 best time 2:07.71
& the 996 is more fun :( Need to tweek the 993 a little more I think. What are others best times / cars around this track?

Hi Everyone,

I own an old Porsche 1976 911S Targa so I've been to Pelican Parts a few times in the past. I just never happened to read the forums. One night a couple years ago while surfing the web for Porsche stuff I happened to come across the online demo for NFS: Porsche Unleashed. I got hooked right away and bought the full game. I've been playing ever since. I eventually was allowed to join an online racing team called the Demolition Crew (I'm a team mate of Geezer's).

I was happy to see some new players (surflvr and derek) playing Porsche Unleashed online last night via the IPLounge match making software. I hope to see more of the Pelican Parts people come join the world of online racing. If you want more info on the ins and outs of the game, drop by the DC Website and have a look around. There is a page on NFSPU tips, car setup info and a lot more.

Hope to see you racing online!

We hope many members of this forum will soon find themselves racing Porsches on-line with others from all over the world.

I was on the other night as Brad. Seems like a nice group. I just had trouble finding somebody running purely stock. I'm sure I'll be checking in over the weekend.

DC_Targa 02-27-2004 11:53 AM

When you create a race using the IPLounge you can select the game mode you wish to run which includes a number of stock modes. You can also select whether C&D (collision and damage) are on of off. Unless everyone in a pit has a broadband connection and the pings are less than 100, C=on is a bad idea. The lag will make you hit cars that don't even appear close to you. I like stock cars myself, but after you play a bit and run through Evolution mode and Factory Driver mode buying cars, buying better parts and such, you may start enjoying a new aspect of the game where getting a good set-up will really help your times.

It's a great game and a good way to drive some virtual cars that we could never afford.
