the life of a typical Pelican thread

1) Newbie posts typical newbie question, eg "can I turbocharge my NA?", "how do I get more HP from my NA engine?"
2) 200-post member immediately flames newbie
3) SoCal really sticks it to newbie
4) Newbie expresses sadness, maybe indignation at being flamed
5) FrankB makes fun of newbie/SoCal/situation
6) Ronin or todwic or DarkSkies interjects some smart-ass comment, often accompanied by a link
7) Thread-starting newbie wonders aloud why "you guys are all such jerks"
8) FRWilk or Britwrench actually answers the question posed by the newbie, probably feeling bad for them
9) SoCal expands on the answer
10) someone contributes a link to help clarify answers
12) CJFusco finally posts, ignoring the last string of posts and immediately flaming the newbie
13) SoCal and FrankB make fun of newbie's spelling
14) Newbie becomes angry again
15) SoCal or FrankB or Ronin or TheCooler or ae1969 make fun of newbie for getting mad
16) Someone, possibly CJFusco (even though he just rekindled the argument) suggests that everyone should try getting along
17) Newbie says something witty; is immediately accepted into the fold

--OR--

17) Newbie says something immature and final, eg "you guys are the biggest *********s I've ever seen," and is never heard from again

I guess if I ask for clarification in an exacting manner it could be construed as flaming. Guess whacking around the internet and bbs's for the last 14 years has given me a thicker skin".

Better than Rennlist where:

1) Newbie posts typical newbie question, eg "can I turbocharge my NA?", "how do I get more HP from my NA engine?"
2-20) Numerous 200-post members immediately flame newbie
21) Before newbie expresses sadness, the post is over 30 minutes old and is now on page three, where it is never heard from again.

or 924board.org where

1) Posted question gets no response because nobody goes there anymore.

Hey!..... I resemble that remark, NOT! Well, at least not yet anyways, I'm still new to this game and have lots of opportunities to show my ignorance. Give me some time, I'll come up with something, It's just a matter of time!

Does the life of a typical thread take the same course when a newbie ask other questions that are considered "flaming offensives" such as:
1) Has anyone thought about supercharging there 944?
2) How hard is it to change my timing belt?
3) Why won't my speedo work?

I'm sure a few more can be added, but those were the only questions I recall asking when I was a "newbie"!!!

Supercharger thread might succumb. But the other's would get answered in a quick timely fashion, after which the thread will become an off topic discussion about Conference calls and exactly how to prepare venisson for the holidays

Anyone who succeeds at turbo-ing an N/A gets my reward for moron of the Decade. How shallow do you have to be to attempt something that can be only accomplished by producing a different car equipped for a Turbo, with suspension to handle the big HP's... Frigging dopey.

What about if, back in '84 I latched on to an '83 insanely cheap. (Someone owed a gambling debt, for example and rather than develope a limp for the rest of thier life, they wisely deed me the coupe). I play golf with the Callaway district super. We decide, just for $h!ts and giggles to throw a Callaway conversion on that bad boy. Some dished pistons and a few other mods, my 944 is lighter than the 85/2 series of vehicles and has a turbo. Something Porsche would've made me wait another 2 years for. Sure, Porsche does it better, more reliable, but, Frankie Fingers Felonious exFord Fencer, is that really a numbnuts thing to do? Think of the reaction you'd get at the next PCA bull session.

BTW, anyone interested in what the Callaway conversion involves, do a search of "Callaway" and "THolyoak" and the username. He has a site that has some nice photos of it.

well, if this was 1984, and you were turning an N/A into a turbo via the route that you've just described... well, I'd think you were a moron spending that much time under your car instead of on top of some little chickie-poo, being we were all about 50 or so pounds lighter in 1984... poophead

No, Frank, you didn't forget to mention it, it's just been a long time. Besides, in '84, I was 12.
