Daytona 500: Tips for a Newbie

My company is a sponsor at the Daytona 500 next month, and I'll be working the event. I should get Race Day off, and maybe 1/2 day before that. I'll be there from Monday-Monday.

Any tips on what to see/avoid whilst in Daytona for my first NASCAR race?

I may have some pretty good VIP badges/passes too.

Its like going to Mardi Gras in the French Quarter or going to a Super Bowl. If youve never done it, you should try it at least once. Once you have done it, its not worth the hassle to do it again.

I used to live there. Race week was a nightmare. Id rather take a beating than drive anywhere in the city during the 500. Maybe its changed since then, but I cant imagine its much better than it was when I was there.

Dont plan on being able to get anywhere in Daytona quickly that week. Almost every street near International Speedway gets converted to a 1 way. Sometimes trying to get to the other side of the street will get you re-routed miles out of the way before you can turn around to come back to where you wanted to go.

Don't make plans after the race either. You wont be getting anywhere for hours unless you have a escort from the speedway.

Have fun!
