Is it just me, or am I the only one that thinks Bose equipment is ovepriced and overrated? I am so tired of the Bose ads "Can your system do this?" trying to convince the viewer that their wave system sounds like a concert hall? I went to a Bose outlet and sat in one of their listening rooms and had a demo. It was nice, but not, IMHO, worth the price they were asking. I dunno...I have never liked hype, particularly for something as subjective as sound reproduction....
Just a random thought.....

Yeah, Bose is definitely overpriced, and not even considered to be in the realm of "audiophile" quality by the purists. However, their products are very well designed/engineered (especially the older stuff like the 901's). From what I can tell, their MO is to use extremely cheap components, but get the most out of them.

BOSE is CRAP. Have you ever noticed how Bose systems are always placed in their own separate display stand at stores. That's because they know if you hear it next to a real system, you'll hate the bose. I once had a salesman tell me that they should sell a package of Q-tips with every bose system so that the person buying it can clean their ears out when they get home. I ended up buying a set of studio monitors from the guy because I liked his honesty. I'm sure the stores make a bundle more off of a bose system than most others because of all that marketing. For a little boom box, or non-audiophile car audio I'm sure bose stuff is fine, but not for what they charge. How much do those little boom box "wave guide" things cost. I think it's over $1000, rediculous!

Bose is a prime example of a marketing-based company. They're good because their marketing staff is good, not because their products are good.

If the Bose system is offered as a $2000 upgrade or something like that, forget it! For that kind of money you could get something serious put in there.
I have ridden in an A6 with a Bose system in it. It had the trunk mounted subwoofer enclosure. The system sounded really unbalanced. I guess you're supposed to say "wow" because the bass is powerful, nevermind that its also boomy and unnaturally boosted over a certain frequency band. Not to mention the higher range which also sounded as if it had dead spots. No amount of fiddling could rememdy the situation. I was dissapointed. If you want to hear some serious audio, try a set of MB Quart speaks powered by a good clean amplifier. You can't miss. |

I've had the "cheap" bose mini-cube system at home for 12 years now, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. My mom has a few wave radios, and her boyfriend likes his so much he's given them to a LOT of people on his gift list. Expensive, but last forever and have fantastic quality and volume for the size (that size was not available from anyone else at the time).
I also remember when Dad was looking for a new car (had been using the 356 for 20 years) I got to sit in quite a few 911s. I always thought that the Turbo with the speakers all along the cab from the passengers feet back along just under the window line all the way around to just by the drivers ankles. but BlueSkyJaunte has it right.

In my experience, all the cars I've been in with Bose systems are terrible. They should have stayed with home audio. Wasn't it an old Blaupunkt commercial that stated "We don't make home stereos..."?
I have the Bose Lifestyles surround sound system, and I think it sounds quality is excellent in my house. I've enver had any complaints about with it.

Have any of you guys actually sat in a Cayenne and cranked up the system? If you have, I'd be interested to hear if you still think it is junk. BTW, this is the standard audio system - it's not an extra cost option, so comparisons with high-end aftermarket systems really don't mean much.

In this case, I really am interested to hear from the audio 'experts'. If this is a junk system, I can't imagine what a good system sounds like!! As I stated, I've owned other vehciles with factory Bose systems and was less than impressed. This one is a whole different ballgame. -- Curt

I hope I didn't come off as saying that the Bose system sounded like junk. Obviously, it was much better than a standard factory system. Its just that I am under the impression that this is a multi-thousand dollar upgrade, and for that kind of money you could put a better aftermarket system in and with the $$$ left over go to a DE or two.
