crazy cigarette smokers can all go to hell!
so I'm driving home tonight on I-95 when the idiot in front of me throws a lighted cigarette out the window, sparked shooting up from the asphalt.
I swerve quickly to avoid it (making sure no other car was next to me) but the cigarette manages to take a crazy bounce and still ends up flying underneith my car  What are the chances of disaster, given that the fuel tank is up at the front? Has there ever been a case where a lighted cigarette has caused an accident? |
I think the biggest danger comes from swerving to avoid the thing. You'd pretty much need to be leaking fuel in order to ignite it.
That said, it's easy to start a brush fire with a cigarette butt -- which can burn houses, and also the Porsches inside them. ;) |
How lazy are people? Why don't they just put the cigarette butt in the ash tray they throw it away when they get home/where ever.

It was probably me...
My Bad! |
I've heard some Boxster owners have set their own car on fire by flicking a cigarette, and having it ingested by the air intake behind the driver's door, setting the air filter on fire.
|
I hate smokers that litter like it's ok, especially when it hits the hood of my car. I usually counter with a handful of pennies out the window at speed, gives me a reason to keep the ashtray full anyway.
|
I'm sure that's what happened here : http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/146036-how-did-catch-fire.html :)

yeah, i went to traffic school once. the instructor mentioned something about how dangerous it is, i.e. how many accidents it causes. i was really surprised, it acutally does cause alot of accidents. anyway it happened to me last week.
i passed the guy in front of me and threw my Jack in the Box oreo cookie shake at his truck, didn't hit his windshield but sprayed the whole front. that sentence was a blantant lie, i wish i had the balls to have actually done that. cheers, dont swerve next time. philip |
Smokers are just oblivious when it comes to flicking their butt out of the car.
Every smoker is in denial.. that's why they flick it out the window. Out of sight out of mind. If they put it out in the ashtray the stink would stay in the cabin reminding them that they are stinking smokers.. besides smoking is so out these days. I should know, I used to be a smoker and have been guilty of this sin back in the young foolish days. Be careful out there, nowadays people throw all sorts of crap out their window.. |
Steve's absolutely right, I was exactly the same way 10 years ago. Young and stupid.
|
swirving for a cigarette? have you gone mad?
|
you know what i hate...is when you're behind them on the freeway and they blow their smoke out the window and it gets all over your car. i mean i don't see it or anything but i know it's on the paint. luckily i carry my quick detailer in the back seat.
sorry i just couldn't help it. |
I dont even swerve for animals!
:) |
I had to swerve like that once to avoid something someone had thrown out the window and spilled beer all over the inside of the car, boy was i teed off.

I said, MY BAD.
Geez... |
You really hit a sore subject with me here. I have come close to fist fights several times with smokers who throw their buts on the ground! Every time I yell at someone they look at me like I'm nuts! True, I do probably look nuts, but to them there is nothing wrong with their disregard for the environment. Ever walk past a red light at a busy intersection? Piles of butts!!! I'm not an over-the-top environmentalist but whats wrong with people???
|
I'm a bit neurotic when it comes to fire.
In many areas a thrown butt will enable the PD to pull you over at nite when the cinders signal them. The 911 is a PD magnet to begin with. |

here in SoCal, cig butts end up in the sewer system, which drains to the ocean. So I get so swim with other people's butts. That sucks on so many levels...
If ever there was a reason for carrying a gun in the car, it would be to fire across the bow of a smoker. Leland, I think you need to apologize again :p |
