Exactly. Its the light dusting of powdered sugar on a proper beignet that beats the industrial adhesive grade glazing on a KK donut, hands down.

Although CdM can keep that horrid chicory swill. I believe most folks can afford actual coffee these days without having to mix it with assorted ground nut shells, rusted bolts, old Huey Long campaign buttons, or whatever else may be in that stuff...

Ask any R Gruppe member, they plan their runs based upon where to get the best Donuts and coffee.

Thanks Guys.

And LOL, thanks Unfixed, I'll get Wayne to stuff a few in as packing when I buy my next bunch of oil filters.

There is no other :)

Actually, there are a few others. There is another Cafe du Monde in the riverwalk plaza in the quarter. Also one in Baton Rouge :).

There is a coffee shop in Baton Rouge that is way better than Cafe du Monde. The place is called Coffee Call and they make regular Beignets and Beignet fingers. Awesome stuff.

Krispy Kreme is terrible.

Shuie - I stand corrected! Although I still can't see going anywhere else.

There's a Krispy Kreme opening in Vancouver?!? It's time for a ferry ride!

Over here on the Island, the best donuts come from the Sidney Bakery... they're double glazed and then dipped in chocolate... mmmm, double glazed.... drooool!!!! :p

best donuts are the ones you used to do in your mk1 escort on 40's with the lumpiest cam in the world fitted. bliss!

Man that's the truth. What's chicory anyway? All I know is it doesn't belong in my coffee!

Shuie 02-01-2004 06:35 AM

You guys like the Beignets and dont like the coffee from down here? Im not a big fan of Chicory either, but they have great coffee if you get away from the 'New Orleans Blend' stuff.

Once you get used to the coffee here, its really hard to drink it from anywhere else. Everything else seems like watered down decaf. I know a lot of people that have moved from the state and actually mailorder Community Coffee. When I go out of town, I have to order double espressos or I start to lose motor skills :)

Mmmmm.....d-o-n-u-t-s!
(Get outta here, Homer....)

Tim Hortons® *used* to make a good donut. But in the last few years they have gotten smaller (and smaller), and way less tasty.
Once, there was even a story in a Canadian newspaper about the demise of this National treat.
Ol' Timmy must be turnin' over in his grave at the thought of it.
However, one store near my shack employs some very hot college girls, so who cares about the product.

And the RCMP?? F'em
They'd eat a turd if you put sugar on it.

bill douglas, do you think they would make it through the mail? they would probably be small round bricks by the time they got there.

I've had them "fresh" off the plane before - my wife brought some back with her when she came home from Germany (studying) and stopped off in LA. Probably 14 hours old, still tasted pretty good.

But KK is all about the "Hot Donuts Now" sign for me. They have to be straight out of the river of fat, still warm, mmmmm.

Bill, apparently there is one in Sydney...

jrdavid68 02-03-2004 10:18 PM

Here's a shot from a recent trip to NOLA and Cafe du Monde - it's hard to see, but at table behind us are the band members of Stone Temple Pilots (I am the one that took the picture).

Sydney... I love Sydney. Ummm, let me see, I'm sure work needs to send me over to fix some computers...

King prawns then a desert of KK doughnuts :)

Krispy Kreme, but you have to show up when the light is lit so you can get them right out of the machine -- the best of the best!
