Need some on-line music advice

I know that some of you must use your PCs to do the whole music thing. I am not in to music at all as far as using my computer goes. I have a six CD-changer in the Touareg and prefer to do it the old fashioned way. I also prefer the 3.2L station in the 911.

I have also had to help several people with their machines after they downloaded Kazaa - what a pain in the arse program!! Since I do tech support for a living, programs like Kazaa will never get installed on any machine that I own!!

I just finished working with the son of a friend who had a computer that was all effed up - viurses, Kazaa, corrupt profile and the list goes on.

Now that all is working well, he is looking for some advice on what to use as he is hesitant to download and install Kazzaa again.

What are the best programs out there to do this sort of stuff (download MP3s etc). He would prefer that it be the legal way to do it and if he needs to pay for a subscription etc., that is fine too.

He has a fairly new laptop with XP Home.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

iTunes music store is the best out there. Cross platform, liberal DRM, and better sounding files (AAC v. MP3). I met with Napster people this week, and have been playing with their stuff, but it isn't ITMS.

I agree with GrindingGears and nostatic, itunes is my choice. Very easy to use (I have XP), cheap, legal and a pretty good selection of music to buy.

iTunes is great. And legal. I set up an account for my son. Guess what 13 year olds are listening to now: Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Doors. Who would have guessed?
