You may argue that your use of guns is not like this... but the fact remains that that is what guns were made to do.
Tell that to the rancher with his mini 14 as he's going after the pack going after his livestock...A gun is a tool. Not bad, not good...just a tool that can be used for good or used for evil...

OK thats the choich you've made. However what I don't like about the Gun Controlers is that they want to make the CHOICH FOR YOU. They want to take something away from YOU and not just me. YOUR RIGHT TO CHOOSE.

Porsche Crest Reasons for Gun Ownership

Over twenty in the Seabees, Dad a Marine. I probably have a far greater chance of getting waxed in my early T. Unfortunatly, if you have had the "pleasure" of facing a burgler in your house armed or otherwise, it changes your whole perspective. And with all respect for the police, they will not be there when it is "Brass Tacks" time. The rough part is afterwards, you never feel secure, but at least you and your wife and kids are still breathing.

Rifles and pistols are everything that one can fear, but for the crook, well, they do not want to work that hard. For those opposed to gun ownership, don't own one, but don't leave me without the right to choose.

I am a huge Medal of Honor fiend. I prefer the missionary download as it makes cheating alot more difficult. I am trying to get used to Call of Duty, but get owned everytime I go online. I have 1942 but it doesn't run real smooth on my machine for some reason.

I have my share of weapons locked up "just in case". I have been in situations that a gun got me out of, but try to never put myself there again. My wife has tried to persuade me to get rid of my guns to no avail. After having been in situations as mentioned previous, there is no way. Nor will I pass on renewing my concealed pistol permit, even though I don't use it.

I understand & respect Richards point of view & feel the world would be a much better place without guns. But the fact is that they're here & I feel the sound of a Mossberg chambering a round is a great deterent to an unwanted visitor beating on my front door.

Sounds like quite a weapon tabs, I would not be able to enjoy it much as I am a terrible shot & have very shakey hands, that's why all my guns are high capacity.

So much for the argument of "responsible use".

A wolf wakes up every day, kills something, and eats it.
I wake up and eat something I've already killed. Simple as that.

Motion,

Gun ownership is a very touchy subject!!!! Have you actually lived outside of Orange County? Sometimes, the justification of not needing (or needing) guns may be dictated by your environment.

I can't make my mind up on the issue of guns.

All I know is that a friend of a friend came into my families home (when my parents were away) and I was about 22 years old.
The guy was strung out on some drugs (don't know what). He bailed us up at 3am in the morning having left our house at 10pm the night prior to this particular morning. In my parents living room he had me sit on the floor and he proceeded to ask questions and make statements about what it would be like for my parents to come home and find my brains splattered against the wall.

I still have very strong images of this event. Lucky we talked our way through 3 hours of BS talk and made a run for the door. He camped in the house for 2 days and ransacked it. We were too frightened of reprisal if we rang the cops. He even stole my dads war medals which were in a brown paper bag in his socks drawer.

Finally he left. Eventually got caught doing a drug run in his GTO between states.

Anyhow...this situation left me with many thoughts
1. Would I have gone for a gun if I had one in the house?
2. Should I have tried to use my Taekwondo training to 'take him down'
3. Years later if my kids or wife were in this situation would I use either a gun, bodily assult or flight to get them out of the situation.

Guns, as everyone has commented, in themselves are not the problem. Its when they get in the hands of someone who could 'turn' at any time if provoked by a)their own actions b) someone else actions.

I use to hunt every year on my uncles farm for rabbits with 'mixy' as they were a harm to livestock and healthy ones also decimated the land he farmed. We were taught from a young age to respect the rifles we used and my dad (a WW2 Vet.) was a sergeant major with us. Any pot shots and we were in big trouble. If the rifle wasn't spotlessly clean before and after use and locked (chain and padlock) at any time other than when hunting for vermin...well...we were in MAX trouble.

Ultimately, I wish guns/rifles didn't exist. I, like Motion, look into my kids faces and fear for their safety from either accidental or purposeful (including random) shooting. Then again I'm fearful for their safety on the road too, be it in a car or crossing to school!

Expathk,

I do not know if you are from U.S. or familiar with U.S. stuff, but be aware of lawsuits here. Using martial arts, baseball bat, gun, etc. make sure you understand that "dead man do not sue!!!!!!!!!!" And I repeat, DEAD MAN DO NOT SUE!!!!!

Martial arts........try "Excessive Force.!!"

I have 2 wonderful kids myself. I am very dedicated parent having refused big bucks, big jobs, wonderful career opportunities just to be with my kids. Without exageration, I get a high seeing my kids grow, laugh, play, you name it.

You should read "A time to Kill" by Grisham. In there, as a juror, you were asked to close your eyes, imagine the crime being done onto your kid, and you decide what you want to do...............

if you do decide to use a gun, the recommended final outcome should be that

The "assault weapon" ban expires in September. The MD legislature failed to reauthorize the state's ban. So I'll be buying an AR-15 October 1.

Someone above said: "Ultimately, I wish guns/rifles didn't exist."

Accept the fact that they do, and always will. Also, like others have said, they are just a tool, with a very singular purpose - poking a hole in whatever you point it at.

Remember that the police are only a reactionary force. Also (and I'm not trying to troll, flame, or seem like some anti-guv weirdo) there is a great history of Bad Things happening when a government disarms the citizens.
