Help Please with a California Visit
I need some help please from the folks on the west coast with local knowledge of southern CA.
My son and I are planning to visit for a week at the end of February. Neither of us has been to the west coast before. He is a bike customizer and of course I am interested in old and interesting motor cars. What are the must see things for us? Any ideas and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There's a new show about land speed record cars at the Petersen Auto Museum, in addition to the exhibit about Caroll Shelby.
February 28-29 - POC Short Track Series at Streets of Willow (at Willow Springs). March 3 - Open Track day at Willow Springs International Raceway. There's bound to be a Pelican-guys canyon run sometime around then. There's a bunch of rain coming, it looks like.

I second the Peterson museum. Loved it they had a Rolls Royce show when I went. They were some very rare and expensive cars in mint condition.

Don't forget West Coast Choppers in Long Beach, if he is a bike guy.

To me, the most interesting tidbit at Petersen's Auto Museum was the exhibit about the growth of LA & sprawl. They attributed it NOT to car usage, but to streetcars (mass transit). Maybe they are biased but i'd guess they adhere to some sort of museum type stds. for what they say.
Anyway it was interesting. They don't have much Prosche stuff, but it's a good auto museum. I think I ruined myself by going to the PAG 50th birthday bash right after I got involved with Pooschey's -- I was warned nothing else would ever measure up and they were right about that. |

If you like OLD cars such as Duesenbergs, Packards, Rolls, Cadillacs then you MUST go to the Nortcutt (Nethercutt?) museum in Sylmar (yes, strange part of the LA area for it).
One part of the museum is free. The other part is a pay to see part. Even if you only do the free part, it is fantastic. BTW, the paypart has a dress code and jeans are not allowed.

Thank you all for the responses that you gave to my call for help.
You gave a lot of good ideas for my weeklong trip to SoCal. I shall be there from 3/6 -3/11. With your help I now have an outline that makes me think that I should have allowed more time. Thanks again.
