What a great way to retire at 74! "I'm an outlaw baby. Thaaaats right!" This will not hurt him with the widows at the country club.

The new S&W slogan will be, "Ask a man who uses one." I guess his becoming Chairman is a good endorsment for the company...S&W the prefered choich of Robbers and other Desperados.

Hmmm...doesn't this make you wonder about Cheney or Eisner; big guys like that and their pasts?
I'd be embarrassed by this if I owned S&W stock. At least I wouldn't fair well at a cocktail party. Imagine the ribbing! I wonder if stockholders will now demand a look-see into a CEO's prior life.

Some companies actually hire executives because they have expertise in certain nefarious activities...

Yeah, you don't want someone like that running your company.... -Chris

Joking aside, Chris raises and excellent point. People can and do change for the better.
What bothers me is if this were a position for an engineer he never would've gotten the job, regardless of whatever excellent work he had done after paying his debt to society. But for Chairman of the Board, apparently background checks are unnecessary.

I have no problem with it since he served his time for the crime and then tried to help others before they took the same wrong path he did.
Then again, I am certain that the anti-gun lobby is going to be all over this. |

One CEO down...How many more are there?
Sorry..I do not agree that simply because he "did his time" he should be the CEO of a weapons manufacturer. Kinda like putting a pedophile in charge of a daycare. He would probably been just dandy as a CEO in some non firearms organization. Talent is talent.

Well, if a cokehead alcoholic who goes awol from the military and is arrested for a DUI can become president of the USA should we really have higher standards for a weapons maker executive?
![]() Hell, unlike bush this guy actually did the time for his crimes. I'm just kidding Moneyguy1 (well, except for the bush facts) but yes, you are right that company executive should be held to a high ethical standard. Unfortunately that is a standard that no politician or executive is nrmally held up to nowadays. |

Sadly, I absolutely agree. The older I get, the more I wonder how civilization ever got to where it is today.
In my old home town (Roachester NY) Kodak is going down the dumper (from 64,000 employees in 1972 to 22,000 now) and their CEO Dan Carp gets rewards from his fellow execs in the film industry. Go figure....

Sounds like he's done a turnaround, but don't they run a simple background check before hiring this guy? Hell, I use a private investigator to do this on every employee I hire ......

Pish Posh....he seemed like he knew about how guns worked, and that was good enough for S&W.
Remember several years ago S&W was owned by an English firm and they tried to cut a deal with the Clinton Administration to make smart guns...they caught all kinds of He11 on that one from the gun industry. So this isn't the first booboo that S&W has made recently.

They "tried" to cut a deal?? I thought they did cut a deal. Don't recall the details, but I remember trying to trade in my S&W at the time and the dealer didn't want anything to do with it!
