Ipod Users - Help

Any of you guys that use Ipods changed your Pc (or Mac) since you've being using MP3s? I've got a new PC arriving soon and with about 3-4 Gig of songs on my old one I'd rather not lose them. According to Apple though, you can't transfer songs from the ipod to a PC due to copyright issues.

Is there any way around this? Can 2 PCs be linked together to transfer data? If so, how's it done?

Thanks for any tips.

on the mac side it is easy..there are shareware apps that allow you to pull mp3s off the iPod (PodWorks is one). You might try a search and see if you can find a similar one on the PC side. The other alternative (and what I'd do, as I'l likely be moving other files too) is to connect a Firewire or USB harddrive and transfer the files to that, then move them to the new machine. I have a bunch of shuttle drives around for moving big files (ie video and raw audio) that I don't want to ftp.

I found what I needed pretty much straight away at that site Richard. Copy Fromiipod To PC

Sounds the same as Todd's sugestion using a 3rd part shareware program.

another simple way is to just zip your MP3 files, use the ipod as a disk and copy the zip from old PC to iPod to new PC and unzip the MP3s to where you want them.
also handy for moving other files if needed.

Saintly,
Missed your post 1st time around. So I just use a program like winzip to zip them then hook up to the new computer? Wont the new computer blank the ipod cos the info on it doesn't match the info on the computer?

Also, do you just access the ipod through explorer like you would an extra disc drive?

Thanks

OK, I gotta tell. I usually don't talk about passengers, especially the ones in first class. This was a famous designer, I'll bet everyone reading this has one of his designer-initialed products somewhere in their house.

Last week, in flight over Europe, as I was passing thru the cabin, he stopped me and asked if I knew anything about I-pods. He was holding one, and was distressed that it had stopped working. He was concerned that I had done something to prevent it from working inflight. He claimed that this was the third one he had, and that they never worked longer than 3 days for him before he had to have his PA return them for a new one.

I looked at it, and yes, it would turn off the moment it came up.

Yes, the battery was dead, and he looked astonished that it needed to be recharged. No one had told him that this was necessary.

I am always amazed at the things I learn from passengers.
