Some Watches I Like

There were some threads a couple months ago about watches. I got one of mine back from the watchmaker, and thought I'd post a couple pics.

This is a Citizen Navihawk, black face. It has been re-lumed by www.industrialwatchworks.com

The re-luming really pays off in the dark:

And a Citizen Navihawk, white face:

Yeah, like this one: a Panerai Luminor

If you've got a spare $10K, it sure would look good on your wrist.

I don't have the $10K but I have the watch! It actually does keep time although it's a bit large for my small wrist but I love it.
They are a little bit cheaper in Italy and mine was secondhand.
Hey! I collect fine watches, it just means feeding my husband on water and a pasta diet for a few months

You have good taste!

I was thinking about heading across the pond this year with my wife, maybe I'll have to see if I can pick up a second-hand Panerai. I really love those watches, and Sinn Chronographs.

It is very difficult to get a really good deal if one's working to a time constraint such as when on holiday. I tend to buy from trusted jewellers who have a trade-in. A possibility would be to time your visit with the Parma Antiques Fair (spring and autumn) or the Novegro antiques fair. There is always a huge selection of new and previously owned. Similarly there are some specialist shops. Neither of these options would offer real bargains and one needs better negotiating skills than mine. It is also possible to be ripped off big time if one isn't really an expert.

I love the look of the base model Panerai. The whole Panerai line is extremely overpriced, IMHO. Not exactly the movement Id expect to find in a watch where even the base model will cost $2k in the preowned market.

Sinn makes a great watch, but they can be really tough to find. I was a big fan of the 656 until I wore one for a little while. It's a ton of watch for the money. Really nice watch, but the crown bit into my wrist and made it uncomfortable. Make sure you try one on before you buy.

I gotta draw the line somewhere...there are only so many things I can collect...cars, guns, art, CA Arts & Crafts/ Modern Sterling Silver, Art Glass. And there is only so much I can collect in those areas.

So while I appreciate the watches I will have to stick with my everyday Date Just Rolex 2 tone.

You boyz in LA need to find Lance Thomas for good deals on watches. You might of heard of him he's the one that capped 5 people over a year trying to rob and kill him at his shop on Santa Monica Blvd.

This Lance Thomas sounds like a good guy. And he does good deals on watches as well?

You're right about the Panerai movement, but you can't beat those looks. Truly a triumph of visual design.

As for Sinn watches, I like the 356 Flieger, which is the base model chrono. I've tried one on and it fits like a glove. I tried the 656, and felt the same way about it.

There's a store in the local mall that sells Sinn and Panerai, among other fine watches. I occasionally need to buy my wife some Marc Jacobs stuff or the like and I have to head over there. I love window shopping at that store.

In LA proper? What's the shop called?
Nice shooting, looks like a good probability you would survive a robbery in his shop.

He closed the Shop on Santa Monica Blvd years ago. The last attempted robbery was to kill him and not rob him, and being a marked man he went into hiding. It was a case of everyone trying to knock off the fastest gun in the west.

Lance as far as I know still deals in watches but on a very low key level. You might ask around at a Watch Show. The only way I know of how to get in touch with him is through an attorney I know, and that contact is old because I have had no need to contact him.

Yes Lance does have GOOD prices on watches. His idea is to make a profit turning over watches and not building a museum.

Here're my daily drivers. All are moderately priced so I'm not afraid to scratch them up a bit. All have 40mm + dials. All are mechanical and/or automatic.

1. Heuer Monaco (EVERY early 911 owner should be required to own one of these ....)
2. Fortis Flieger
3. LeMania Elvstrom yacht watch
4. Ocean Master yacht watch

Hi there, Concentric Jason M
That's me
I don't frequent the USN as much right now... I'm in a debt reduction mode and have trouble saying no to nice new toys. Besides, have to save money for the Porsche
