Xbox suggestions?

Update: Thanks for all the input guys!

My wife bought me an Xbox for Christmas and I finally got around to hooking it up last weekend. I am not a big gamer and I don't really care for all these realistic shoot-em up games. Games that I have been thinking about are Tiger Woods golf, old school 80's games (i.e., asteroids, donkey kong, and the like), and some kind of car racing game. Does anyone have input on Tiger Woods golf and any other suggestion as to what car racing game or other game that would be interesting? I have heard of a car game that includes a 911 as a car choice, that would be nice. Thanks in advance for your input.

I just got a PS2 for X-mas, and I have the Midway arcade, Konami arcade, and Activision 2600 collections for it. (Yeah, I'm into 80's archade style games myself.) There should be similar arcade games for the X-Box: just check your local Best Buys or EB.

Another game I suggest is Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed. Unfortunately, it's not available for PS2, but I have the PC version of it, and it is a must have for a Porschefile gamer!

I thought they did, but I just check online, and they only have Need for Speed Hot Pursuit and Underground listed.

I'm sure I saw it at Circuit City before for X-Box.

Well, I will definitely have to get TW 2004, and will look for Project Gotham 2. My problem is not access to games, but rather, knowing what to buy. Thanks for the input so far.

I'm not really a huge racing game fan myself (the real thing's better), but as a baseball game nut I recommend ESPN baseball, which will come out in about a month. I have the older version (Sega World Series Baseball 2K3), and if you like classic gameplay and a real deep franchise mode, there's nothing better. And you gotta have Halo...

Oh by the way... Midway's NHL Hitz is an incredible extreme hockey game also (stunning, rediculous, ice-chips-flying, check-you-through-the-glass, drop the gloves and fight face to face, graphics and action)

Well, I bought Tiger Woods Golf 2004 and a couple 80's multiple arcade game disks. The 80's games were a blast and I stayed up til 1:00 in the morning playing TW Golf. Today is going to be a long day at work. I can definitely see how these games can be addicting. By the way, some of the 80's games I got were: Pac/Ms. Pac Man, Defender I and II, Joust I and II, Galaga, Galaxia and Pole Position. I would still love to have Asteroids and Donkey Kong/Jr.

I disagree. BY FAR the best baseball game EVER is the recently-released MVP 2004, for GameCube, PS2, and XBox. The attention to detail is amazing (strike out Derek Jeter, and the crowd chants "over-rated!"; down by two in the 9th - Nomar gets on, Ramirez on deck - crowd starts chanting "Man-ny Man-ny" etc), and the play control is the best I've ever seen. Seriously, give it a whirl - you will be impressed.

The guy at the game store said MVP 2004 is a must buy. I just could not justify another $50 for that trip, since I am new to this whole game thing and I was already spending over $100 on games with my wife by my side.

Anyone using this game rental service that is much like netflix, where you pay so much a month for unlimited rentals (two at a time)? I believe the price is $21.95 through Best Buy.

Scooter, I know that you aren't a HUGE fan of shooter games, but THE game to buy XBox for is HALO, quite possibly the best console-shooter ever made (wait, nevermind, forgot about GOLDENEYE for a second).

I have heard Halo is "THE" game to get. I will check that one out soon. I will probably rent it first. Isn't there a Halo 2 as well?

As someone said before, get the new Project Gotham Racing. You won't be disappointed. Halo2 is also another outstanding XBOX game.

Scooter.,.,.,.,.,do you have a store called Game Stop in your area? Or a simular store. Its nothing but a gamers store, that not only carries New games, but you can pick up tons of already played games, that people bring in, to trade, or sell, to get newer games. They are cheap. Amywhere from $10 to $20 for used games, that play just fine. Alot cheaper then buying new. AND , you will find the older games your looking for.

No Halo 2 yet, but yes, Halo is a great game.

Hey Fusco, good to see another rabid sox fan on the forum! The difference between MVP and ESPN is really more one of personal preference. I like the unbelievably deep franchise mode and classic movable circle batting style of the ESPN game, but if you're more into realistic surroundings and timing your swing rather than aiming, you're right, MVP is a great game. The best thing to do is buy one at a place like game stop. That way, you can return games for full price if you don't like them within seven days.

the new MVP has a VERY deep franchise mode, called DYNASTY.

In Dynasty mode, you control a major-league franchise for a 12-year period. You must keep players happy, keep team chemistry up, renegotiate contracts, increase revenue... not to mention the fact that you can manage, play, or just sim up every game on the schedule, from AA all the way up to the Majors. That means, on any given day on the calendar, you can play as the Sea Dogs, the PawSox, and the Red Sox, or just sim up the first two games and play as the Red Sox in the big game.

Seriously, check out MVP 2004. On most websites (gamespot, etc) it is one of the highest-ranked sports games, up there with Tiger Woods 2004

Grand Theft Auto III and GTA Vice City double pack. You get to star in your own mob movie. Game is completely reprehensible.

Or just GTA Vice City to save a few bucks. The 80's theme and soundtrack do it for me.
