Suggestions for improving threads, chime in!

Too often questions pop up like: Car won't run, help! without any details as to year, type, location, signature. It would save a lot of space here if, before someone could start a new topic, some required fields needed to be filled in to encourage the user to disclose the best possible details regarding the year, history, repairs, upgrades, symptoms, etc. Also, to encourage the use of the "Search" feature, a new-topic-user could be advised to search first before popping a non-specific, vague question. I think it's almost a must to have a signature for location, etc. before posting. What thoughts on this one?

Emission 03-12-2004 09:58 AM

I only request that thread titles be a bit more specific. I can't stand threads that are titled vague. Search functions also work much better when the thread has a decent title.

I like City/State and Year/Model to be listed in the SIG/Avatar too. It does help understand issues (rust in Maine is different than rust in Tucson) and will yield better answers.

All threads should be screened for spelling and grammar. Any thread containing mispelled words or gramatically incorrect sentences should be instantly deleted. Any requests for technical assistance should include the authors SSN, mothers maiden name and last two year's W-2.

The author of a reply should include documentation in support of their expert status. For example, the signature line could state, "I'm not a doctor, but I play one on television".

All threads should include a photograph, even if it is unrelated to the topic. That way, those of us who are technically incompetent will have something to entertain us.

But seriously, providing background on the year and model of your car is most important. Otherwise, I would say that most people do an excellent job of explaining their issues. I like the threads where people share their own stupidity. That way we all feel a little less inadequate.

motion 03-12-2004 10:39 AM

Also, all posts must include a pic of a really hot chick.

This thread is shaping up to be another gem....lol

Vague titles get me too.... "Guess what" as a title for a transmission question.....AAAHHHHHHH!

Also, I'm all for hot chick pics as long as they're SFW.

...with a 911 to keep it on topic...

thrown_hammer 03-12-2004 10:59 AM

Also sometimes pictures will help make technical answers more clear...

agreed!

vash 03-12-2004 11:36 AM

i cant stand when someone ask a que, and gets offended if the answer is not to their liking. there are some smart folks here, and some regular guys that have been through the same friggen thing. and that is better than smart...

john walker's workshop 03-12-2004 11:42 AM

not much you can do about the majority of it, but a required signature with at least the year and model would be nice. a complete name would be nice too. nothing to hide from here.

john70t 03-12-2004 11:47 AM

Let's keep it on topic people..... there are plenty o' topics on this site to discuss everything...

motion 03-12-2004 02:23 PM

Wow Pari... is that your sister? I would definitely write lots of bad checks for her

My wifes rack was worth every penny!

25 years married! She lets me race whenever
I want, and yes I live in the garage

Good woman

Hetmann 03-12-2004 02:32 PM

Posts should include location and relevant keywords in the title. If you don't have a picture of a hot chick, at least post a skanky one that's trying to be hot.

Ohhhhhhhh..... its *your* wife (nice rack, hehe). I'll bet she puts up with your racing... I would too if you bought me a house in Coto ;)

HAHA, if she was I would have more than one 911 in the garage right now!!! For the ignorant like Richard, it's Ms. Lima Bean, umm yummy :p .............. http://www.askmen.com/women/models_60/74_adriana_lima.html

Good Luck Richard. You wouldn't need to write bad checks for her!!! You would need more than that.;)

Gunter - I thought there was nothing but inner peace and tranquillity up the slocan valley - don't tell me all those US draft dodgers are starting to get crotchety in their old age...

Par911 03-12-2004 03:16 PM

Putting the jokes aside, I agree with Gunter though. I think more information is always better, especially when asking for technical help. The title names shouldn't really matter since when you search it looks for keywords inside the posts, and they still come up in the results. Now where's that brewhttp://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif

126coupe 03-12-2004 03:22 PM

Oh you need more info
R & D on breast implants was done at capt. Creams(local
titty bar) The strippers liked the wife better than the dudes
when deciding on size the Dr. suggested cc'ing water into a
zip loc bag and put the bags in your wifes or girlfriends bra and
it simulates size

motion 03-12-2004 03:30 PM

Cool! Captain Creams rocks!!!! I've dropped some serious bank at that place over the last 10 years!

ZCAT3 03-12-2004 04:00 PM

How about creating a separate forum for cosmetic questions - like what wheels, what color, what car wash, does my car look like a street sweeper sitting this low, should I paint my fan green, etc. etc. For a "technical forum" there sure is a lot non-technical stuff here (hypocsiy duly noted).

How about less ricer bashing? It's a free country, I was young once and couldn't afford a Porsche so I tinkered with what I had ('71 240Z). I personally think this board should not be used in a way that looks down on others who don't share our 911 passion. Why do some have to put others down to feel good about themselves?? (OK off my soapbox now)

ZOA NOM 03-12-2004 04:22 PM

Minkoff, who's hand is that on her thigh?

126coupe 03-12-2004 04:25 PM

Probably mine (grease under fingernails and hairy hands)

I AGREE!!!

All threads should be screened for spelling and grammar. Any thread containing mispelled words or gramatically incorrect sentences should be instantly deleted. Any requests for technical assistance should include the authors SSN, mothers maiden name and last two year's W-2.[COLOR=blue] and of cours a hot chick http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads2/81079141237.jpg

Here's a crazy thought

How about a recommendation for posting technical questions on the "Technical" forum.

For example, rather than discussing how others use the board, discuss recommendations on improving threads by cleaning them with a tap.

Just peeing on everyones parade (though I do appreciate the humor & pics):p.

Post from Purrybonker: Gunter - I thought there was nothing but inner peace and tranquillity up the slocan valley - don't tell me all those US draft dodgers are starting to get crotchety in their old age...
Purrybonker: You must work on your manners and education. I came to Canada from Switzerland, no US Army there. I resent your insinuation to put an insulting remark like that on the board. Whatever decision any young American made to prevent being blown away in Viet Nam has no place here. Shame on you. I agree with Statistics Canada that Alberta has the lowest level of education and the highest level of red-necks.

Purrybonker 03-15-2004 06:58 AM

Quote:

....actually, if memory serve correctly, you are 100% incorrect. Alberta has the highest level of secondary/post-secondary education in Canada. As to the redneck population - can't argue with you on that statistic - sadly I have to interact with many of them each and every day.

As to the rest of your commentary - TAKE A PILL.

...damn, I might just have to sell my place in the Slocan if the rest of the natives start behaving like you. It's pretty much common knowledge that the Slocan was a pretty popular destination for US citizens not keen on the Vietnam war. My comments were not editorial in respect of that immigration or of the war.

...Man, it's time to pack in this board when the Canadians start jumping down a guys throat!
