PC gone too far

There's a local chain of tire stores with a radio ad running right now. The guy doing the talking is supposedly a racer with sponsorship from the tire store. He goes on to describe his car, "Its a 1980 Por-sha SC".

For the first few days I was always kinda bugged by that. How could an enthusiast know how to correctly pronounce Porsche, yet not know that his car is a 911SC? Then yesterday I figured it out.

They are too damn afraid to say 911!

You'd think they would have picked another racer....

What's wrong with "por-sha"?
It drives me nuts when people say "porsh"

He's suggesting that the "911" part of the name has been omitted to not offend anyone who would connect it to the September 11 WTC attack, I think.

That's right, Jack. They're afraid they will create a connection to the WTC attack.

Well, I almost sold my car after 9/11.

I didn't want anyone to think I endorsed those events by tooling around in a car with "911" on the back.

I always thought they were called 911 because you then remember easily what numbers to dial when it is stolen.

Thuis is a little known fact. On reviewing German telephone surveillance tapes they picked up Mohamed Atta talking to Bin laden on cell phone. Bin Laden asked when would U like to carry out the WTC attack? Atta was watching TV at the time and saw a Porscha commercial, absent mindedly said, "Ohhh a 911." Bin Laden said, "Very good, then it's set for September 11th!"

I wonder if our host noticed an increase in sales of 912 badges after 911?
