<i>"Didn't this exact conversation take place in 1965?"</i>

Actually, I think it was 1962/63. Porsche *****-canned it's Formula One racing program to devote engineers and resources to development of the then new 911 ........

To me, the Cayenne has limited stowage, no third seat, no spare tire included in the base price (what about the guy who gets a flat out in the boonies..How does the AAA get there?) and costs 'way too much for my simple pocketbook. I have driven both the NA and the turbo, and they are fine vehicles. However, if it is engineered like most Porsche products, it is now, and will be a bear to keep up as it ages, particulary if used as a daily driver. Given the option for utility, I would probably look elsewhere for the best return for my money
As I mentioned previously, there are a good handful of SUVs on the market that absolutely kill the pepper on every SUV type of metric for half the money. Heck the new Nissan Armada will keep up with the S in the 1/4. So unless you're marching through the twisties so much for a performance advantage. That Porsche crest starts to look kinda silly.

Side note - took the scenic route home last night through Fairbanks Ranch (mucho $$) and Rancho Santa Fe (major mucho $$$). On the side of the road in front of a home sat a silver pepper S with "Make Offer" signs in all it's windows. I was actually feeling sorry for that particular "Savior" of the Porsche brand.

Not sure where you're getting you're numbers from but the Armada does 0-60 in 7.7 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 16.12 according to this source:

That would seem reasonable given it's weight/HP ratio. The S is over 10% quicker in both categories. Top speed, braking, handling, road feel ....... ? Better not go there ...... haha.

In any case, I could come up with more than "a handful" of cars from econoboxes to full-size luxury behemoths that could outperform the 911 in a paper argument. But they're not Porsches, so who cares? And that's the point. :D

Hmmm .... this is interesting. 1st quarter North American sales ..... Porsche up 23%. Volkswagen down 18.5%.

23% of what? 18.5% of what?

My choice I would stay with the AMG Merc.
Mine almost feels like a 911 to drive around in yet still fits 5 adults.
You need more space then trade. Also every 4WD I have driven (no Porsche 4WD's yet) feel a little top heavy.
Good luck. I wish I had such a tough decision to make.
