New Talk Radio Era:
I am listening to the first Al Franken talk radio show right now, the guest is Senator Bob Kerrey and topic is the 9/11 commission hearings. It's good so far, obviously Al makes no more of an effort to hide his political leanings than any of the 99% of right-wing radio hosts, but he's funnier and a lot smarter. (Faint praise).
![]() The name of the show is "The O'Franken Factor", a name that he admits was chosen for a single reason: "to annoy and bait Bill O'Reilly"...... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's the link: http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-franken31mar31,1,636126.story

He just said that he had Ann Coultier locked in the green room, and has told her that he is going to put her on the show but, "of course we're not"........

Why anyone would give a second of their time to that no-class loser is beyond me.

Funny that conservative shows operate on their ability to draw market share while liberals had to buy time to get any station to have liberal talk hosts...Sorta like a continuous, paid for, muzak version of a democratic committe commercial. Guess that is because all have failed in the past. America is just not that far left. If there were an audience, the free market would have had liberal talf radio shows long ago. Ha Ha!

Al Franken is funny, but as a leftist I take him no more seriously than I take Coltier, O'Reilly, or (from my own camp) Mike Moore.
Now a Comsky or Zinn talk radio show... that would be something that might at least influence the way that people view things.

Al Gore just called in, he is hilarious now that he isn't running for anything........., he asked Al, "How the 'drug-free' thing is going?"
Al: "No oxicontin in the studio here, for the last 2.5 hours at least"... ![]() Calling him "Mr. President", etc... (Everyone laughing).......

Enjoy it while you can because it will not last long. Just like previous liberal talk radio shows...there is only so many times you can tell the same old bad jokes about the President, or Christians, people from the south or use another show's trademarked name.......eventually they will have to start taking calls from conservatives...with facts.........and will have nothing to say. Cutting them off rudely and making fun of them will only work a couple of times. then zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzz

flintstone, if you substitute every one of your impressions, you could mirror the opposite argument. The O'Franken Factor is an attempt to keep things in balance if not perspective. Sure, he's an *********, though a good one, but he's countering the bully factor and that's healthy.

How refreshing..a lucid thought and a reasoned argument! And no name calling! Now, 1. Do you really think they would have to buy time for the new liberal talk radio shows if there was any possibility of commercial success? Why would radio stations not pay them for their shows like they do current ones? 2. Don't you think that the current network news shows and CNN are not sufficiently liberal enough to offset successful, commercially viable, conservative talk radio?

if there is a supposed liberal bias in the media, where are the liberal talk shows? I guess we have the Daily Show, kinda.

I think this might be the first congenial conversation between liberals and conservatives on this board that hasn't devolved into a kind of monosylabalic pissing contest.
What most liberals and conservatives fail to recognize is that BOTH SIDES HAVE VALID POINTS... the disagreements occur depending on what issues hold precedent in the mind of that individual. Usually, when a liberal and a conservative disagree on a wider issue (the war in Iraq), it is because they disagree on details (the liberals cannot accept a pre-emptive war waged with no proof, the conservatives are attempting to protect the well-being of our homeland), not because the disagree with the basic concept. Every intelligent person would avoid a war if at all possible; since liberals and conservatives disagree on the fundamental reason for going to this war, the disagreement on details gets lost among all the labelling of "Pro-War" or "Anti-War". I personally am wary of anyone that identifies themselves (politically) with a particular "ism." As soon as one says, "I am a Liberal/ Conservative/ Anarchist/ Communist/ Socialist/ Leninist/ Marxist/ Trotskyist/ Fascist" they immediately polarize themselves and can quickly begin to fall prey to that "side's" dogma, and can thereby become blind to the fact that there are, say, valid arguments for AND against Affirmative Action, Abortion, Universal Health Care, Gun Control, Imperialistic Colonialization, etc etc. The arguments always occur in the details.

Yes..I agree. I consider national security the biggest issue at the current time. Personally I am a bit closer to Libertarian..but disagree with some of their issues also. I like to look at both sides of most issues, but was personally attacked upon my first post here...even what I did for a living was questioned since my opinion and experience didn't match preconceived expectations???I am not one to back away from a fight and don't appreciate being called a liar.
Oh...try to split your news intake between Fox and the rest for a couple weeks...it is amazing how different they see the same thing.
