Jeff Gordon and F1

There are rumours floating about that Frank Williams has an interest in good old boy Jeff Gordon. I too was impressed with his drive at Indy in 2002. Seems there may not be any drivers in their stable for 2005. To fuel the fire even more, he is travelling to Spain to attend the GP and may test again.

It would sure garner interest in F1 by Americans but I have my doubts after reading :

Quote:
'Every time anyone asks me about F1 I say this - I had a blast driving the car but I don't plan changing my career. I make much more money here, thanks.'
How much more money do you need Jeff??????

Well if he meets another Brooke, I reckon he'll need another $25m or so

The guy can drive, and not only left hand turns. He'd be stupid to turn down worldwide recognition and the mystique of being an F1 driver, but who knows, he did marry that money-grubbing ***** that took off with a ****load of his money.

I'd think He would have the potential to make more money in F1. It would depend on how well he marketed himself, how competitive (good) he was, and what kind of salary deal he could negotiate. NASCAR budgets pale in comparison to F1 budgets don't they? Either way, if he ever had such an opportunity and turned it down, he would be an idiot IMO.

Well, Shumi is the 2nd highest paid athlete in the world, after Michael Jordan. He used to be the highest. The potential is definitely there. Jeff Gordon's too old, though. Way too old to start fresh in such a complex sport.

if he stays in nascar he's guaranteed a large income for some time to come. Jumping to F1 could make him more, but if he doesn't perform, he'll drop like a stone.

If F1 was smart they'd subsidize his jump. Getting an entre into the US market could result in huge sponsorship influxes...

I am sure he could always return if the plain failed after a year. I think F1 needs an established US driver to spark interest. While it may be better to have a young "up and comer" get the chance, they would not garner the media and general interest that Gordon would.

Still with racing, I think it's scary to see a 17 year old kid running in CART.
