I like the 70- Z28 body style better as well. For some reason I have always been attracted to either one of those, or a similar vintage Corvette "Stingray"...with current gas (and garge-space) prices, no muscle car projects on on the immediate radar screen!

I too have a confession. I'd like to find an '86 in great shape (like one I used to own) it used to be a great car back in the day, but now it's just a guilty pleasure. kinda like that fat chick and moped theory

Ouuuuuu...a 1970 Dodge Challenger or Cuda with a 383....440's are way to nose heavy in a corner.
Same can be said of all the Big Block Muscle cars (Vettes Excepted) cept mine....thats why I modified the suspension...so it handles like a small block... |
if i HAD to get an american muscle car. and one day i pray i HAVE too. i think i would stay small block cars, so nix the chevelles and stuff. for me it would me a chevy II (nova). i dont know the year yet. but i would be a ragtop.

Every once in a while, I take my dad's 81 Stingray for a spin. What a fun car that is too drive, totally different experience than my 944...

I used to have a '67 convertable. Marina Blue, White top and cowl stripe. Healthy 350. An all-around great car. If you can find one at a decent price, you won't be dissapointed. |

We're going to look at a 69 Chevelle (350) tonight, so I guess were still open.

I was restoring '68 Chevelle before I picked up my '66 Mustang. Simple to work on as well. Again, watch out for the rear window channel/package tray rust. If it's bad, the trunk will be too. If the trunk is bad, the lower rear quarters won't be far behind. Inner fender aprons (esp on the battery side) rust easily and can be pricey to find replacements. The cowl can also get rusty under the lower windshield reveal trim too. Door bottoms and floors after that.
The frames are pretty tough, but can get thin around the steering box mount if junk has collected in there. A 10-bolt posi would handle the 350 OK if not wildly modified, but a 12-bolt would be better. There are some good aftermarket brake/suspension alternatives out there too - enough to pull around 1G ... depends on what you want to spend. Low buck front disk brakes - 2nd gen Camaro front disk brakes (the later the better) are a bolt-on and the knuckle improves the suspension geometry ... bring along the booster/MC too. It's also easy to dump way more $$ into a non-SS Chevelle than it would ever be worth ... even a Malibu. Good luck ... |
