'Nightline' Devotes Show to Reading War Dead Names
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1896&e=1&u=/nm/iraq_usa_names_dc
"Due to time constraints in the 30-minute program, "Nightline" will limit its reading to the approximately 523 U.S. troops killed in combat since the start of the war. Another 201 have died as a result of accidents, friendly fire or suicide. " what?! why dont they make a 1 hour special and include the additional 201 names, as if those people's lives were any less or greater value. I'm sure the families will be outraged by this. if you read 1 name, then you have to read them all. |

I don't have a problem with the idea, I just don't think their motivations are in the right place. Hell, the got Koppel reading the names for C/S
![]() I think our boys should indeed be honored and I hope my suspicions are incorrect and they do this in a classy and proper way. However, I'll bet you Koppel throws out some asinine antiwar comment right after he's done.

Sad, really. I'm all about honoring our troops. Those guys are out there fighting and dying, giving all they can give in the name of freedom and democracy. They fight a war that many people don't believe in because they have honor. They make hard decisions every single day, and sometimes they make mistakes, and sometimes they die. Back home, mothers, wives, sisters, and children wait expentantly for their return -- but it may never come.
And in the meantime, we're going to sit around and read their names off on national television to incite anger towards the current administration. If they can manage to pull it off to show respect for the honored dead, that'd be great, but I'm not holding my breath... Dan
