I hope the Sox sweep 'em in 3 straight. As tonight is evidence of though, they need to get their bullpen bolstered up a bit though, although I think the O's got lucky - how often do you see Pedro AND Arroyjo choke that bad in the same game? Not too often.

I agree, d$$@ the yankees, the south will rise again! I'm going to go put on some nice wool socks right now, to show my support. I don't understand what the socks have to do with those d@@$ yanks, though ...

the yanks believed that socks should be low cut below the ankle while the south believed in socks that covered 3/5 of the leg. The yanks were outraged at the thought of 3/5 socks and tried to strong arm the southern states in congress to outlaw 3/5 socks. The south was angry that the yanks wouldn't allow 3/5 socks so they went to war.

i think it's safe to say that last night, our socks stunk up the place.

seriously, though, Pedro does not do well in those cold-weather starts, does he?

Besides that, did anyone else think that the ball hit by Bill Mueller in the 10th was gonna be a grand slam?

How is it, if the Yankees "suck" they continually manage to beat the Sox? The Sox must suck worse.

Go Yanks. I hope A-Rod goes yard twice tonight. That'd be schweet!

"How is it, if the Yankees "suck" they continually manage to beat the Sox? The Sox must suck worse."

I think by "Yankees Suck", most Sox fans mean that the organization/company is loathesome. Nobody can argue with the fact that the Yankees have been the most dominant AL team of the last 15 years or so.

EDIT: Although one can certainly make a case for the 2003- ? Sox... the 2003 Sox were the best offensive ball club of all time, statistically.

Go Sox, Go Cubs... what a World Series that would be!

CJ -- I agree. "Yankees suck" rolls off of inebriated tongues much more easily than "The Yankee hierarchy is corrupt and it's a singularly loathesome organization, even in professional sports."

No doubt the Sox had a great team last year; but it re-proved what the Yanks have been proving for the last several years -- offense is not going to win championships, pitching is (and maybe leaving your ace pitcher in the game...?); the offense is just a prerequisite to compete at the higher levels. I'll say that this year, the Sox' pitching rotation is more fearsome than the Yanks' and I would not be surprised if they made it to (and lost) the Series this year. Assuming of course that Pedro doesn't flip out/melt down/get injured.

I'am a life-time Yankee hater, but you simply cannot deny the fact that they have a scary line-up. If anything, their pitching is just okay, but they'll make up for it in first class defense/fielding and batpower. They'll be back in the hunt again this year.

first class defense? Which Yankee team are you referring to? 1996?

Yanks have the Sox on batting line-up (although they have yet to show it), especially with Nixon and Nomar injured, but Sox DEFINITELY have the Yanks on pitching. Pedro-Schilling-Lowe-Wakefield-Kim (when he's healthy)? And Foulke for the 9th inning? Nasty.

I agree, this is the first year in quite a while that the Redsox have a better starting rotation than the Yanks.

Then again, the Yanks will buy a new staff by mid-season...

If there was real revenue sharing and / or a salary cap, the Yankees would be a nothing team - heck, even without the revenue sharing & cap they're basically a nothing team now anyway. Steinbrenner is a terrible owner - shows no respect to the players, managers, coaches OR fans; he'd be exposed for the self-absorbed egomanaical jackass that he is.

The Sox have ALWAYS been a more "technical" team and that is ESPECIALLY true now with their extensive use of Pythagorean projections and the like to drive decision-making. It's unfortunate that such efforts have continually taken a back seat and been "beaten" by such boorish salary bullies that just buy up whoever's hot at that moment, use them and then kick 'em to the curb. No elegance, no tactics, no STRATEGY even. It ruins the game for the analysts and the true fans and puts the championships in the hands of the most undeserving fans - ones that think that anything can and should be bought. This defies the essence of fair competition dating back to the original Greek Olympics, if not earlier! I love the sport, but it is truly disgusting when one considers how much better it could be if the role of money were diminished and the role of tactics was emphasized. . .

Rooting for the Yankees is like rooting for the house in blackjack.

Or the orcs in Tolken's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. You get my drift.

So what explains the Sox not being able to win a Series since 1918, surley its not just 26 time world champs.

I'm sure the Yankees with hot-shot "should-have-been-with-the-Red-Sox" A-Rod will be able to just tee 'em off of old slow-ball knuckleballer Tim Wakefield (#4 starter).

Awwwwwwwwwwwwww. Guess not.

A-Rod looked absolutely embarrassing last night.

The Sox didn't

Let's see how the Schilling/Mussina matchup goes today
