Why is Kerry trailing?

The Polls have Bush ahead of Kerry.

This is in lieu of war, a bad economy, U.S. jobs being shipped overseas, and at least four NYT Bestsellers casting our president in not the best of lights.

So why is Kerry trailing? CNN states it's because Kerry has no election theme.

But can that be the only reason?

You almost sucked me into responding to this thread......

It is sooooooo enticing.

But it has been several weeks since I have been flamed, and I am going to let someone else get this one.

I burned out a bit on some of the poly-sci threads last week. But Jeez, Kerry - what is up? All this GOP detritus and he can't even get out of the gate!

The poll numbers can change manymany times between now and November, so I wouldn't give it much weight just yet. They're close enough so that any significant change in the last weeks could change everything.

Bush, even with his slow speech impeddedediments is still easier to understand (for the average voter) than Kerrys "I voted for it before I voted against it" career politician (don't take a stand) ineptness.

Kerry has a very long political history, to support his political nothingness.

That, and he is completely removed from being the "working mans" democrat.

Does that help?

To his credit, I've seen he can take on, and regurgitate whatever he is told to be/say.

No doubt he will be very different 3 months from now.

There is simply no precedent for Bush's presidency, on any level, so the "better-looking guy wins" stuff goes out the window, IMO. Bush lost the last time, for chrisakes.

After the presidential debates the polls will mean something. I have no idea how Bush will do, Karl Rove will be holding up que cards stage right for him. He's the "whatever he is told to be/say" guy.

I forget where I saw it, but a poll was taken a couple weeks back and something like 68% of likely voters thought Kerry would tell them whatever they wanted to hear and Bush was like 38% on the same question. It's hard to get behind a guy with no core. The Bush negativity factor will take him a long way though. Yep way to early, but in the past something like 80% of voters have their mind made up by April.

I have posted this before but I think that Kerry is the result of a total political abortion. The Dems boy was Dean and thus was surrounded by total losers so when compared it is clear who the delegates were to pick in the primaries. Unfortunately, Dean blew up leaving Kerry to take the baton. Kerry will be torpedoed by the "machine" here soon. In fact, I would not be surprised to see negative comments appearing in the press from "liberal democrats" concerning Kerry.

It is not the Dems intention to win in 2004 since that would screw up their plans for 2008.

As a strong conservative, I can say that there are better Republican candidates for president than W, but I will support him in this election. Kerry, and I am not being mean here, just is NOT the right guy for the Dems.

If there weren't plans to run Hillary in '08 you would have seen Ford, or Bayh, or some other fairly handsome, moderate democrat run for president. Even Dean would have been crushed in the election because he is so freakin weird.

Sorry libs, your party has other plans for this election which honestly, makes a lot of sense. I expect 2008 to be a really good race.

Giuliani anyone?

Giuliani would be good, but I was thinking that if they threw Hillary at us what about Rice? I could easily vote for her and it would negate the female sympathy vote. Rice is a little more conservative than Giuliani as well Though I cannot imaging him losing to anyone. I don't get the Hillary thing though, I mean there will be people crawling out from under rugs to vote against her. I say put her up.

She would lose against W that is why she isn't running this cycle. She has to win her seat again in NY...but honestly, what has she done for the people of NY, especially upstate?

I agree, Giuliani/Rice would be a great ticket. Probably unstoppable.

I agree...but talk about speech impediments.

Personally I was impressed with Edwards. I think he was head and shoulders above Kerry. Go figure.

Yep. Edwards would have been a MUCH better candidate. He would have given W a real run! I think that W would have lost to Edwards which is why the media ignored Edwards...he would have ruined the Dems plans.

Said that from the beginning Rick. I was much more afraid of Edwards, plus his voting record(read baggage) was minimal. If W loses it is all on him, as no one is voting FOR Kerry. I think Edwards could have gotten some votes for himself if you know what I mean. I think the dems could put "candidate to be named later" on the ballot and get the same results in November, maybe better

The Dems may put "Bob- a nice guy" on the ballot. At least Bob will get more votes than Kerry.

Boeing got an order for 50 7E7's
Airlines have hired 975 new pilots
Core indicators are higher and increasing at an increasing rate
Housing starts are up...

Looks like W has the economy. Just need OBL/UBL, Iraq to settle down a bit and some increased petrol production and he will be money.
