Shoot, now I feel downright guilty. I dropped my daughter off yesterday and drove her right up to the Teacher aid/escort at the door. ;)
A walk would have been nicer. Actually, I find I have some of the closest and most fufilling coversations with my daughter when driving the short distance to school.

And skipping. Lets not forget the skipping - adults just don't do that any more. Maybe that's the whole problem.

BTW Sup, as usual, you provide a lucid and well thought out commentary on the subject at hand (well, besides the politiking).
Thanks

I expected as much. I know we agree that one group seems to respectfully approach these issues as an important and thouthful national dialogue and the other group tends to be...ummmm....provocative and, "base" if you will.

Superman 05-07-2004 10:01 AM

I appreciate that. My daughters and I also like to skip. It's just as fun as it was forty years ago.

I'd like to buy you each a beer and chat. With some of you, I'd suggest we chat about cars. But the guy I think I might like to chat with the most is....you know. Makes me proud to be a bass player.

Randy

Yeah, think I'll have to order one of them handbaskets. Prolly go Dura ace though.

My point was not to brag, because I am quite average by most standards (and well below in others). I just really believe opportunity is all around us as I believe it will be for the next generation.

RickM 05-07-2004 10:05 AM

Is it group hug time yet? :D

lendaddy 05-07-2004 10:12 AM

Oh Sup, you know I was kidding hence the AIGF (All In Good Fun). I love you man:)

P.S. How'd you know I play the Bass?

Whine, whine, whine. You guys sound like a bunch of democrats. :D

Life is what you make of it. Whether you live in Newport Beach, Jakarta or Baghdad, only you can determine your own happiness, and it must be done in spite of the conditions around you.

The world is a horrible, horrible place - because of people. You and everyone around you. Humans' sole purpose on this earth is to f%ck everyone around them and f%ck the planet up. It's been going on for millenia, and will continue until we are all exterminated by one thing or another.

On the other hand, you can take your child or someone you love, and stand on the edge of the Grand Canyon, or gaze at a crystal clear stream in some vacant forest and see the potential for your life.

The ingredients are there, and people who live under a dictator's brutal regime in North Vietnam, amongst the child-murdering police of Rio de Janeiro, or in a penthouse in Manhattan all have the same opportunity.

You can choose to worry about interest rates, troops humiliating their fellow humans, the fat content in a burger from McDonalds, what's on TV tonight, or any number of other things that the numb masses concern themselves with. Or you can stop whining and make positive steps to improve your quality of life, whatever that means for you.

Personally, Todd's one-liner resonates strongly with me, because my sole purpose each and every day is to share a moment with my son.

Who knows, he might be gone tomorrow, and then what would life be like?

techweenie 05-07-2004 11:44 AM

nostatic: "that the salad days are over...we are in the declining years of society (mostly focused on the US)...Technology advances far outstrip cultural and societal abilities to keep up. The question is can humans keep up, and keep all the balls up in the air."

I guess that's what drove me to write the screenplay I'm working on -- about who in this culture is really equipped to survive in a world without technology.

Hasn't that been done already? I thought they called it "Survivor"?

techweenie 05-07-2004 12:28 PM

"Hasn't that been done already? I thought they called it "Survivor"?"

Actually, that's supposely 'unscripted.'

The one Mark is imagining was made a while back. It was called "Omega Man." I guess you could take the Charlton Heston character from that movie and have him go out and shoot some water, and shoot some shelter... I'll consider it if the NRA writes me a big enough check!

Yes I do get that feeling. Usually when I'm on the 405 fwy and their blasting graffiti off the new sound wall that was just put up and every other car has a piss on this piss on that sticker.
It's those times I start to wonder if there is a place on the planet like Camelot to escape to ?

I was born in SF Valley and was thinking about how it has changed just this week.
It's kinda interesting and scary to have a mental picture of how things used to be there.
It used to look like the movie American Graffiti and now it lookin like Blade Runner

But I'm sure there is a master plan someplace that has it all figured out  I wonder where they keep it?
Probably with all the other plans ;)

Besides, Todd
Were all going to be moving off the planet pretty soon like in Blade Runner So it's starting to make sence

speeder 05-07-2004 07:21 PM

Lendaddy, Playing the Kumbayah card, dude?? That's the "poison pill" argument-ender. :D :D
